And also in c:\programdata\team mediaportal\mediaportal tv server\logs please.

Did you verify that the tvplugin.dll has the correct version? As you said that you copy them from the backup.

Logs you will find in C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\logs

Ok thanks. I wasn't sure if the configuration app had its own log since I was crashing from it (& before I started MePo) but I guess those activities are in the main log.

I thought I had solved my problem. I installed MePro to another PC and copied the TV dll files from that directory to make sure I had the right versions.

Now "TV" shows up as an option in the menu and I can see options for TV in the config. I can select and move to the TV screen but when I try to select guide I get prompted to enter a server name (i've tried pcname & IP here), then after entering the name I get this error:
Code:
Connected to TV-Server
Unable to connect to database
All IP ports seem to be fine
...

I've seen a lot of messages from users with that same error and lots of them were fixed by just adding a line to the hosts file or changing to or from IP/pcname but that hasn't worked for me yet. :( Oh well, back to reading...

Here are the debug logs... sorry if this is more than u need. Thanks guys for the assistance!

Well it is resolved now. I wasted a lot of time on it but I learned some things too. I was chasing dlls down and copying files over and kept making a little progress but none of the things suggested got me by the database connection error above.

I ran the "package-tvengine" setup file and it offered an option to repair or uninstall the TV Server (y) I chose repair and after it finished, everything worked as normal!!

Thanks for the help guys! I'm pretty new to this program but I really like it so far.

Hi scoot13,

glad to hear that it worked for you. Thats wat I meant with "it is better to reinstall" or in your case repair an installation than to try to work with an installation which is in an undefined state.
It is always a good idea to take a look in the logs, because there you will find the most information. Without logs it will be quite hard to find an fault.
Have a good time with mepo. ;)

Yes, you were correct about that! The logs were very helpful. I find it strange though that re-running the installation program doesn't change anything and there is no option to "repair" an install BUT if you run one of the package installs like "Package-tvengine", then you DO get the option to "repair". That was all I needed to do really was run that file and I think everything would have been fixed.

Again, Thanks for all the help! I appreciate!

Man... I had it working for a couple of days and now I've hit the wall again. I'm not sure what happened but now I get an error when starting MePo something like, "Can't connect to TV Server".

When I try to enter the TV Configuration, I am taken to the Database setup screen. When I choose "Test" I get an error... "Connection failed! Unable to connect to any of the specified MySQL hosts."

I did some reading but still haven't fixed the prob. I've tried different settings for the hosts file and changing from server name to IP in the Gentle config files. None of that has worked. I would appreciate any advice.... Thanks in advance!

Is MySQL\MSSQL running, do you have wireless or a network that is shut down\disconnected in anyway (MSLoopback adapter is required if so).

Also the tvservice needs to be running, could it have crashed, after that we would need logs (see sig)

    Regards

Thanks for the fast reply. The SQL service will not start, it gives, "Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly." It is not liking my host name though, that seems to be the issue. I tried to reinstall the TV service from the "package-tvengine" but I wind up at the same SQL config menu as I mentioned above , when I choose "Test" I get an error... "Connection failed! Unable to connect to any of the specified MySQL hosts."

the problem is here : "SQL service will not start, it gives, "Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly." " so you have problems with config file i guess. try to use default config file supplied with mysql, and only after you get it working you can try to start tvservice
