Synopsis: After converting a dvr-ms file into mpeg MediaPortal freezes

Description:
I installed a fresh windows and installed latest drivers for my Hauppauge PVR 350, all the latest updates. Installed 0.1.3.0 MP version and all works fine. Recorded some series and could convert them from dvr-ms -> mpeg files with the 'Compress' feature in My TV.

But If I use one of the latest csv versions (think the last 5 or 10) I could convert the dvr-ms files into mpeg but when the process was finished MediaPortal freezes. I see sometimes the TV as tumbnail in the left corner running (video / audio are ok) but I cannot use the menu / any key or Media Portal freezes total. Must use Ctrl-Alt-Del to kill the prozess. Can reproduce that problem again and again. The converted files are ok and I can play them. Same result when I want to convert into wmv.

Anyone any idea?

BTW, If I delete the MP folder (with csv) and extract my original 0.1.3.0 archive there, it won't work again, only an image form the whole system will fix the problem.

Same result also with the latest CSV. But the Burner plugin works fine.

Should I post some lines from the created log files?
If yes, which one?

Same result also with today latest CSV. But I find out a trick:

I start the compress and use ESC to go back to menu and can use MP fine till the process is finished. If I don't do that MP freezes...

same with me. MP freezse until the conversion is completed and then it continues normally.

Wish the compress would work similar like the Burnerplugin compress.

I wonder if this would be one case where a dual CPU motherboard would really be better in a HTPC? Of course it would need to be setup properly to use the second CPU for the conversion processes so the other CPU would be free to be used in MP tasks.

    yeah, worked with pressing ESC.
MP uses quite a big amount of CPU.
I was using the Burner plugin before and this did already the conversion during recording. It was always about 100mb behind the original recording and once the recording stopped, it took a few minutes until the conversion was complete.
this way it was much nicer, however the burnerplugin has a hard coded database name in, which was causing problems when the db version changed.
Also i don't see Gucky appear anymore in the forums, so i'd rather use the "new" way of compress, wit hthe drawback that if you're not fast enough you have a frozen MP.
I've set the compression priority now to "low" and will see what happens.

    greetings to Graz from Vienna,

CPU use is good for me, will check some more settings, but maybe the devs find a fix to solve the problem.

Best wishes back to vienna :)

I'll give this a shot and let you know. MP must be pretty multithreaded so I'll see how it works out on my old multiproccessor MPro. Would expect you'd get similar results with the Hyperthreaded Pentium chips.

Was wondering how I could cut down on those big files. Seemed odd that no matter what bitrate setting I chose on the Hauppage setup, I always ended up with a 2gb per hour file. Pardon the hijack, but is there a way to get MP to do this automatically after it finishes each recording? Or write directly in a more condensed format? I'll go check the documentation again I guess. I must be just brain farting and missing something.

Checked the latest CSV from 01-09-2005 and I could compress a file. :)
But only one time then MP freezes total. :?

I start the compress and use ESC to go back to menu and can use MP fine till the process is finished.
This trick won't work with that csv version. But maybe the devs get this bug solved in the near future :)
