Maybe I'm missing something but am I right in thinking that Album covers/art are not yet supported? I noticed a blog post about it back in July, but I don't see anything in Alpha 4 that would give me anything other than a very basic Audio section in comparison with MP1, when the Movies/Series section on MP2 is much richer.

The AudioMetadataExtractor of MP2 is able to extract embedded covers from the audio (.mp3) files or to use Windows shell thumbnails. So if your files have embedded covers, they will be imported into MediaLibrary.
The "album cover" is in fact the "first available cover of any track of the given Album name". A sample screenshot is included in release news:
A "folder.jpg" is currently not supported, but there are already discussions how to implement this best way.

Okay thanks for the info. Not that it helps me, as all my audio is FLAC, I don't have embedded covers on any of them (is that even possible on FLAC? I don't know). I didn't expect to need to do anything like this. I do have some folder.jpgs's which is what show up in MP1. But there are other option to get covers in MP1 that we don't have available in MP2 yet, which is to be expected.

Ok, I see. For FLAC this might be an issue. You can check this thread https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/reworking-mp2s-thumbnail-building.122807/ for implementation ideas and I think they will be done for Beta 1 release. You can discuss further ideas inside the linked thread.

I actually tested adding cover art into some of my FLACs with MP3Tag. It works, and they are displayed in MP2 on each track. Haven't yet figured out a way to get the folders to display for the whole album...or whether I really want to go through the palaver of updating every album/track in my collection. I guess that is a one time only exercise though.

I already thought about adding "folder.jpg" support to the AudioMetadataExtractor, or even to a standalone plugin. This would solve your issue with missing covers.
Another thing you should know: you can also browse your collection by folder structure (this is what many users requested as well). You can switch between "library" and "folder" view in the (hidden) menu on left side.
