Hey guys, Ive spent hours on this and read a lot of posts trying to figure this one out before posting.

Im getting the all cards busy message in Kodi. My guide works, preview works within TVserver, and home run viewer works.

    Server
    Running on win 10
    Home Run Prime
    Time Warner Cable Card
    MP 1.12

    Plugins:
    TVServerKodi 1.12.0.129
    Schedules Direct 1.11.0.2

    Client
    MP plugin in Kodi
Matricom GBox and Windows XBMC (on local host) produce same results

Tried a plethora of different things and ran out of things to try. Any help appreciated!

    Many thanks in advance!

Hello and welcome to the forum Kevin :)

Ive spent hours on this and read a lot of posts trying to figure this one out before posting.
I'm sorry to hear that you've spent hours. We're here to help, so please don't hesitate to ask when you have questions or problems.

    Okay.
From the log file, it looks like the reason that you're getting that message is that TV Server has determined it is not able to use any of your tuners to tune the channel(s) you want to tune.
The reason TV Server thinks it can't use any of your tuners seems to be due to the tuning parameters - there are required details missing. That's odd, because normally TV Server shouldn't create channels that can't be tuned.

    Could you please:
    1. Tell me whether you have a tuning adaptor/resolver (TA/TR). If you have one, it would be connected to your tuner via USB.

    2. Tell me whether you followed -->this<-- setup guide.
If you didn't, my advice would probably be to delete all channels and start over following the guide.
If you did, please would you rescan your channels and post the log files (TVService.log and TsWriter.log) showing the scan.

    Regards,
    mm

    Thanks for your response!

    1) I have a tuning adapter that Time Warner provided to me. Not sure the purpose of it though as i can only see non DRM channels with or without it in the hdhomerun. They told me that only windows media center can see the DRM channels which is pretty dissapointing.
    2) I didnt follow that specific guide, so I will take your advice and do that. I will reply once ive done that.

In the interim, is it true that only WMC can decode DMR channels?

The purpose of a tuning adaptor is to enable TW to provide more digital channels.

The one word answer is "yes".

In prior years cable providers were obliged by law (FCC) to carry local channels "in the clear" (unencrypted). That's clear QAM. A year or two ago the FCC recinded that obligation and so cable providers are now increasingly encrypting all their channels. Encryption is a "binary" thing - either a channel is encrypted, or it's not. On top of encryption there are additional permissions/restrictions which some people refer to as DRM. DRM is not a "binary" (yes/no) thing. There are levels:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copy_Control_Information

All CableCARD-supporting PC software supports receiving encrypted "copy freely" content. Note I say content instead of channels because the cable providers could set the CCI/DRM on a per-program basis if they wanted to. As far as I'm aware, WMC is the only PC software I'm aware of that can receive encrypted "copy once" content.

In principle any software has the potential to receive copy once content like WMC. The reason they don't is probably mostly related to money.

Receiving copy once content requires CableLabs to certify that your product implements all the required restrictions (eg. a recording created on one computer can't be played on another computer). Implementing the required restrictions involves significant development effort (software development is costly ;) ). On top of that, CableLabs' testing and certification regime is also relatively costly. It appears that HTPC software vendors have decided that the costs aren't justifiable. For an organisation like MediaPortal which survives on donations, getting certified is completely out of the question.

In MediaPortal's case there's an additional reason. In order to get certification for receiving copy once content, we would almost certainly have to close off access to MediaPortal's source code. Closing access to that code would be going against the founding principles of our "open source" community - openness, transparency, co-operation etc.

Hope that explanation aids your understanding. :)

Thanks for taking the time to provide such a detailed explanation! Very informative. I think im going to change my direction here and use media portal to organize and stream by dvd and bluray connection and try to use WMC as my live TV server. BTW, I made a small donation to Mediaportal to show my appreciation for the support and development you guys put into this. Outstanding work!
