this entire WEPEG thing is way way way over my head...i can't for the life of me create a tvguide.xml using my local settings (creating my own grabber files is not something i would look forward to doing)...i'm in Ohio, and apparently i'm the only one in this state that has ever attempted to get a tv tuner working within Media Portal, as all the help i'm seeing is for NZ, AU and other faraway lands. Is there some simple, easily explainable way to just get XMLTV working in Media Portal without all the tvguide options....i've seen some explanations concerning just usnig XMLTV but they all seem to leave out very important key parts to how to do it (like what XMLTV file to rename to tvguide.xml)...

i've imported all the channels, previewed them but when i go into my tv, and after 5 minutes of loading, i get NO DATA...

....everything else with my media portal works fine (except satellite image/weather but that's for another day)....might have to check out mythtv and see if that's any easier to get going with my tv tuner.

Hi, krighton, and welcome to the forums :)
I see may ppl strugle with WebEPG/XMLTV, but it really isn't that hard - when you know how to set it up and how it works.

Could you please answer the following:
    - Are you using TVServer (most ppl are)
    - Using RC2 (release candidate 2)?
    - Vista or XP
    - What grabber are you trying to use?
-- In WebEPG-conf.exe, can you find your channels under USA? (add a channel -> Select it -> Hit the [...] buttopn on top right corner.

I'm sorry to say that EPG for NA users has been a PITA since the regular service was shut down. (Zap2it, I believe).

Ya, Schedules Direct works like a charm here..... Grab yourself an account, it's a real bargain (but not free). MythTV also recommends Schedules Direct for US EPG.

As for weather images..... I don't have a clue, I'm waiting for a posting of regional weather sites that will give me some decent sat pics. Although the local PBS station has 4 national weather service sub-channels 24/7, so I get my weather fix from that.

krighton, you don't need the epg data to simply watch TV. Reading your post it seems like you have not tuned any stations? Can you confirm you have channels tuned in MediaPortal configuration.

If you are using the TV server I suggest you uninstall and reinstall using the built in MeadiaPortal TV section(Also means no need for SQL server).

Once you are watching TV you can then worry about sorting the epg data.

TV Server is basically a seperate program running on your PC that Mediaportal pulls TV streams from. TV Server is more suited to a PC containing 1 or more cards that is connected to by multiple network clients. I may be wrong and if there is some benefit to TV Server on a client, I am sure someone will speak up.

i'm back..spent a day getting mythtv running on my box....interesting that both programs have issues ( or i have issues)....mythtv tv tuner runs great, very easy to set up and quickly had schedulesdirect incorporated and the guide working, but what i had was a problem getting shared network drives with my audio/videos to work...exact opposite with media portal, very easy to get shares to work, tv tuner was a nightmare...anyways made an image of the mythtv and back to work on the media portal, starting from scratch since i think i messed some things up.

a question, does media portal take care of the installation of the tuner card or do i need to go through the complete installation (including software) of my pvr-150...i installed it last time when i couldn't see any tv at all so wasn't sure if i messed things up by installing it before hand.

thanks for the information so far..and no i don't need a tv serverr..i just want the tv to run on this one client and that's it...that's probably where i'm running into some of my issues...

I did a full install of my PVR-150. Works like it should in MediaPortal.

I have it set up primarily now as a DVR to copy my VHS tapes (that I don't have DVDs for). I don't use the tuner section hardly at all since I don't have cable or sat, and all the local stations broadcast in digital already. As soon as the analog cut-off comes next year - I'm disconnecting the coax to it. All I'm using for digital broadcast is my HDHomerun and I'm going to add another one later this year.

Personally, I went with the Client/Server one-seat (manual)install on the HTPC. I like being able to set recordings to run even when MP client is shut down as well as the auto recognition of my tuners. I also have a client sitting on my computer in the office (I need to upgrade the MoBo for it).

    Good luck,

    Chuck
