I have a PC all in one remote (UCR9040) and it works ok for a few buttons but to be honest i havent got the foggiest where to begin in setting it up. I have looked at the FAQS and searched some posts, so i was wondering if anybody else has setup one of these remotes?

Thanks

Figured it out, using/testing the inbuilt software and HIP software put the all in one remotes as a worky for this project.

Anybody who is trying this for the first time. It can be daunting at first but 2 hours of reading and the ole tinternet and you will eventually figure it out.

How i setup my remote control.

This is how i managed to configure my remote so it might not work for everybody.

Model : All in one remote 9040

Install Hip software - (Reason) Since i didn't know what keys were preset into the remote hip software will let you aim the remote at the RF receiver and tell you what keypress it is. Alternatively you can open up a txt file and see what keys are typed although keys like F keys i.e. F1, F2 will not show up etc.

Open Media portal setup --------> General -----> Keys and sounds

Fron here you can map all the keys that you have now discovered from Hip. When you want to map a key to do something in MP, you have to find the key and then assign it an action from a huge huge list of actions. Alternatively you can open up the Xml that holds the Keyboard maps and replace the mappings from there.

Hi,

I've the same remote control. I've followed your instructions. Thanks. It's working fine, but I can't make Pause and Stop work when playing a movie. For ex, pause show me a scrolling vertical line and on the top left of the screen are shown display settings and fps are shown... Any ideas ?

Kamelot.

The pause and stop button default to "/" and "." (on my remote anyway).

So it should just be a simple case of replacing the playback defaults of "space" for pause and "b" for stop. This has to be done in the "fullscreen video specific" section of the xml file. ( or through the GUI)

Recap:

Map "/" ---> "space"

Map "." ---> "b"

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Dave

Hi Pilgrim,

Instead of using directly the mapping in MP, I use first notepad. I open notepad and push the remote key that did not work in MP (pause / stop). In notepad the mapped char were : and ! So I put the same char in MP and it works now.
But "pause" in MP now doing to things : pause the movie and aslo show the fps of MP (as explain in the previous post). Any ideas how to remove this ?

Hi both,

I bought the 9040 as well and run into the same problems that only a couple of buttons are working correctly. I followed your instructions, which where very helpful, but I failed somehow already with HIP. Installing HIP etc works everything fine. When it then comes to catching codes, I somehow do not manage. Starting HIP, I selected as input device the HID interface, however then I got a error message "error communicating with HID", even the remote is connected.
What will be the right interface in HIP to indentify the codes, I tried with all plug-ins, but did not come further. What did I do wrong?

The other option could be you save me some time for finding it out and send me the codes via screenshots / txtfile or as a link.

Thanks in advance.

What I've done to setup media portal with URC 9040:

example for the play command:

- open notepad
- press play on the remote
- for me, * appears in notepad
- edit keymap.xml and setup the play section with *

ex:

<action>
<id>79</id>
<key>*</key>
<sound>click.wav</sound>
<description>play music</description>
</action>

Hope this will help.

ps: I've disable all remotes in media portal configuration.

OK I used Notepad and got some codes, but unfortunately not all. What I miss are the extra functions on the remote like "GUIDE", "MENU", "EXIT", "INFO", "MUTE", "LAST". Also VOL UP and VOL DOWN do not work as I do not see a code either. Do I just need to define VOL UP as code. FAST FORWARD / FAST REWIND and RECORD.
Also I tried Notepad with the standard keyboard and here I also get no code for the Fx keys same as PAGE DOWN, PAGE UP. So it would nice to get somehow the ASCII code back. Any Idea on this one?
