Today, suddenly all mp apps are crashing on launching them: mp, mp configuration, streamed mp config, mptvseries config,, ...

I have unsiinstalled ad reinstalled mp, but same thing.

the only new thing is that windows update has installed some updates for MS Framework 4.0 and some security updates.
any idea?
thks in advance

    Hi alamagar

Some logs would be really helpful. They're required for support threads for a reason - we can tell almost nothing without them.

If the watchdog tool is also crashing then it might suggest that your MediaPortal.xml was corrupted (sudden loss of power or forced power off?). Note that you can find the MediaPortal.xml in C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal, and the logs are in there too.

    thks mm1352000.
No logs are generated because the crash is at very beginning but you give me a clue. I look for mediaportal.xml and I see a mediaportal.xml file with creation date of yesterday and a mediaportal.xml.back files. Replace the new with the .back file and all is apparently working fine.

Must reinstall movingpictures and mptvseries plugins because they dont appear in mp plugins list (I reinstalled mp yesterday).

The question is Why and how the mediaportal.xml file has been replaced with a non working version?

As above - sudden power loss and forced reboots can cause this when data cached by the HDD or OS (memory) is not written to disk before the power loss.

Hi - as above, could be corruption - I had a really odd hard crash yesterday, on reboot, lost the MyTVService db.

So, used backup & updated it current - fixed that problem - magic thinks I.
But, looking at MovingPictures, found lost images in thumbs (although files still there) starting J, K & L. So, reboot - this time OS decided disk structure broken in thumbs, so it fixed that, all files recovered perfectly by Windows.
Then, all ok, except the menu text was partly corrupt - so clear cache and restart.

    Ah,
now, 'Your skin cannot start - out of memory' and bombs MP at start up, and nothing I could think of to fix that.
Ok, so lets uninstall/reinstall MP (but make your OWN copy of MediaPortal files OUTSIDE the standard directories) - no joy, same error message.
Next, totally totally uninstall MP, reinstall and bingo, back to normal.

Reinstall plugins (so I MUST recommend you ALWAYS download & save, then install from local via MPE installer - much faster if your on slow netlink:), copy databases & thumbs into place, reinstalled keymap xml for remote, copy WorldWeather xml into place, replace Configuration & core.dll files (for volume control) - which is why you need private backup, when you fully remove MP, it cleans out the directories.

Moral of story - provided you backup data outside of MP, sometimes it faster to reinstall then try and fix it (it was 00:15 when I started, 01:20 when I finished, but only 10 mins to clean install, reinstall plugins, recover databases & thumbs, and other minor config work).

    Cheers - JCMP
