Hi all,

Two problems. All was working lovely, ffdshow for "normal" video and PowerDVD 8 for HD. Then it stopped. I think possibly it was the installation of a PowerDVD patch that did it. Can't be sure though.

Now I have these issues :

1. PowerDVD 8 codec doesn't appear in the drop down list for H.264 codec choice.

2. If I choose PowerDVD 8 for MPEG2 playback then MP still uses ffdshow.

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing PowerDVD and I've upgraded ATI Catalyst from 9.7 to 9.8.

Yes, it was almost certainly the PDVD patch that broke it - the codecs in more recent versions of PDVD are not available to other applications.

To quote from another web site - "DirectShow support was removed from the AVC & VC1 codecs that come with the PDVD 8 Build 2521 Ultra and PDVD 9 Build 1501 Ultra..So AVC codecs which comes with the latest PowerDVD Ultra package are not able to use in other apps....."

That answers problem 1.

But what about no. 2? For none HD stuff the PowerDVD codecs were still visible and selectable in the drop-downs. But even though they were chosen MP still used ffdshow.

Probably a merit problem on ffdshow or PowerDVD. Can you check the graph that is being build ? (using graphedit or graphstudio)

Disable MPEG decoder in FFDshow.

...or You can try SAF, it will do the same

Filmerit shows no problems.

I've downloaded and installed graphstudio but don't know how to use it

In GraphStudio select 'connect to remote graph' to show the filter graph when playing files/watching TV in MP (it's easier if you run MP in windowed mode).

You might also need 'proppage.dll' installed/registered to allow GraphStudio to work properly under Vista - see https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/general-support-51/graphstudio-mp-graphedit-53866/#post370355.

proppage was the problem, now sorted, thanks.

I've re-installed just the base version of PowerDVD 8 Ultra and have the codec choices again. Will do more testing.

you can use "HDPACK 2.2" to just install the pdvd codec
with regards to ffdshow you can disable the h264 portion of the codec, that may stop it loading
change lib... to "none"
