Hi guys sorry in advance if this have been covered have done a search but cannot find the answer...

I have on aerial lead coming into the hoise that gives perfect reception on all 9 FTA channels when plugged into my TV... When I plug the same lead into my TV card I lose a lot of quality on the higher UHF channels, one of them I get no signal whatsoever. I guess this is a bit to do with case noise and the tuner in the pvr150 itself...

I can buy a booster/splitter for about a hundred bucks but want to know if this should fix my problem before parting with the dosh...

Cheers,
Matt

Hi there, that seems a little odd. Just to check but have you made sure that you have the correct frequency for each channel? It can be manually configured in MP and i use the lincrad website for the information http://www.lincrad.co.nz/transmitters.htm Failing that you might want to consider that the amounf of money you are about to spend on a booster would almost cover a DVB-S card like the skystar2 or the Nova-S and that would guarantee you a good picture if you hook it up to a satellite dish. Freeview http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FreeView#_ref-nbr_1 is beginning to roll out on Optus D1. Just some thoughts.

Sorted

Hiya I went down to DSE today and bought one on the premise that I could return it if it didnt fix my problem.... And it worked! I can get all 9 channels in Auck pretty near to mint reception must be something to do with case noise/interference or just a not so good tuner from Hauupuage....

In regards to DBS I have a satellite dish it was here whn I moved in not sure where its pointed... Would I be able to get any more channels from this if I bought a satellite card? Or if its sky they will al be encrypted, no?

Thanks for your input!

Matt

Good old DSE! Interesting what effect the booster had. My TV reception was pretty awful and due to location (behind a hill) no booster was ever going to fix my problem. As I had an old SKY dish on the roof i got a skystar2 and i use it to watch TV1, TV2 and a couple of others (constantly changing just now as they change over from Optus B1 satellite to the Optus D1). They are on the same satellite as SKY but are not encrypted, its a much better quality picture than the Hauppauge in my opinion, smaller file size too at around 2GB an hour. There would be little point in you getting a DVB-S card just now if you already have good reception as I dont think you'd get any new channels off of Optus D1 (what your dish is currently pointing at) but this is likely to change with the launch of freeview.

There are a number of satellites beaming to NZ, the lyngsat website shows Optus B3, C1, NSS5, Asia Sat4, PAS8, PAS2, AMC23 and NSS 5, the dish would have to be realigned to pick them up, but if you're a channel junkie then this would increase your options.

i hope that gives you some food for thought.
