Just set up MP 1.0 on new HTPC using VISTA SP1.

Installed MSSQL EXPRESS using instructions in TV SERVER MANUAL

Configured using Surface Area Manager to allow remote connections.

When I start TV Server Config, it goes to the DB Login TEST screen, I hit OK and it says that MSSQL Express is not configured to allow remote connections.

Reinstalled MSSQL Server Express. No luck (same error)

Firewall not an issue (single seat installation)
SQL Browser service is set to automatic start.

    Im stumped.

Anyone have any idea why its coming up with this ?

I have had this a coupleof times on install of a new version of TV server. It always comes down to having the 'Sql Server Brower' and 'Sql Server (SQLEXPRESS)' services running. Usually I make sure the two sql services are set to automatic, and manually start them if they're not running. Then when loading the config, it all works OK.
    Hope this helps

thanks for the reply. I did check the services (I think I mentioned this in the post) but rechecked following your advice and they are all set correctly.

    Weird problem eh?

    Anyone?

    Uninstalled tv server.

Uninstalled MSSQL. Deleted all residual folders and files.

    Reinstalled MSSQL

    Reinstalled tv server.

    Configured remote connections and services.

Then it says "failed to create database"

Looked at log. Something about DB already existing.

    Found MPTVDB

    Deleted MPTVDB

    Now it starts.

Now I dont have to throw the machine through the window then run over it repeatedly with the car.

    (phew)! :)

Can you please be more detailed on where did you found this "MPTVDB"? and how you've deleted it? :) I remember I've solved such problem with "failed to create database" few months ago, but I forgot... ;]
