    Hi,
Are there any people using MP in Houston, TX?
I might have to move there soon for work, and like to know what people are using for TV cards in Houston.
Are there special cards for cable or sat tv? How do you guys get EPG data.

Any info is welcome, since my absolutely perfect working system (in Australia) will not work at all in the USA.

Looks like there are no people in Houston using MP.
Anybody from somewhere else in the USA that can give some advice?

    Hi Peter,
I live in Cary, NC so I cant say much specific to Houston, but... Most cities in the US are very similar as far as off-air, cable offerings. We also have DirecTV, Dish Network and other satellite companies. In order to be more specific, could you answer a few questions?

    - Are you looking for SD or HD offerings?
    - Are you looking for mostly off-air or a cable/satellite service? (or a mix of both)

If you are looking for HD in the US, you can either get an off-air HD card to get the local channels in HD, or you can get an HD-PVR to capture the component signals from a cable/satellite box.

As far as my media server goes, I wanted as many HD channels as I could from my service provider. I have multiple Directv Receivers hooked to Hauppauge HD-PVR units. I have serial cables from my media server to the Directv boxes for channel changes. I use Schedules Direct for my guide information, and the Schedules Direct plugin in MP.

I'm in Houston. I have the most basic comcast cable plan and get the local affiliates through clear QAM with a Silicon Dust HD Homerun. Comcast likes to change the broadcast frequency of the clear QAM often. I continually have to re-import stations into the HD homerun and then into MP. It's such a pain, that I might try and pick up the ATSC broadcasts with an antenna and dump cable. I am on the NW side of town and the towers are on the south east side, so reception might be a problem (especially during the thunderstorms and hurricanes we get here in Houston). Obviously, the closer you are to the SE side of town, the better the reception.
I use schedulesdirect and the XMLTV plugin.
be happy to answer any other questions you have.
    Thanks,

    Hi guys
Sorry for not responding sooner, I've been travelling for business a lot lately.

When I move to Houston, I will live in the Woodlands area.
It looks like Comcast is the cable provider there.
ngarcia001: what is the cable plan you are on at the moment? And since I'm asking, what is a good internet provider overthere?

I've looked into schedules direct, and that is the way to go, I can keep my fortherecord going that way.
