Only the buttons that send HID signals are captured and translated by Intelliremote to control MP. Some buttons like musa said do not produce HID signals and actually send their keyboard equivalent. I think keys 0-9 and other buttons. The only way to find out is to run the USB tester application listed above and any button that produces a signal can be mapped by Intelliremote, any button that doesn't show any output cannot be mapped by Intelliremote.
Unfortunately these knock off MCE Remotes don't work like most of the others including the official MSFT remote which sends a USB signal for every single button pushed.
Yes, he's right. And for those keys that aren't recognized by the USB tester can only be recognized by Vista MCE for some reason. Probably Vista MCE recognizes the corresponding keyboard combinations.
So I'm stuck to using the basic buttons like play, stop. Thankfully the info button works and calls out Mediaportal's osd while i'm playing dvds and videos. The back button only brings the menu selection back to the top selection. To exit the current menu to the previous one, I need to press the clear button.
At the risk of reviving a dead thread, I have found a solution that works for ALL buttons on my newly acquired VRC-1100. Given that some buttons send keyboard shortcuts, all you need is to install this plugin: MEDIAPORTAL - free media center - KeyboardInputPlugin and set the keyboard shorcuts sent by the remote (detectable) to be responded to by MediaPortal.
I got this baby working using a combination of EventGhost 0.3.7 with the latest MediaPortal 1.1.2.
Steps:
1. In the "MediaPortal Configuration" application, under "Remote" on the left hand navigation, I unchecked everything under the "Microsoft MCE" tab and checked "Use general HID device" under "General HID". Click OK to save.
2. Install EventGhost and import the file I've attached below.
3. In EventGhost, under File->Options, choose auto start and minimize to tray on close.
Maybe some stuff isn't working, but all the play, stop, rewind, fast forward and the back/escape button are working, along with the green windows button to start MediaPortal.
