Ok, here is a first follow up on the on/off part.

It seems that with the "standard" non streacom flirc it's not possible to really turn the comp on (cold start).

What's possible is to put it to sleep and wake it up.

To put the machine in sleep state, there's the shortcut option. You then assign it to a remote button.

To wake it up, on my comp it works with any key on the remote. Else there is a wake key on the "full keyboard" layout in the flirc software.

Loving it so far, used MCE remote before (Harmony One) but now switched to Xbox One Media Remote instead as it just has enough buttons.

Flirc was easy to setup however had to use the EventGhostPlus plugin to map the "Teletext" colors (red/green/blue/yellow) as those can't be send via EventGhost, so what I did was mapped a key combination within Flirc tool and in Eventghost used the Mediaportal plugin to send Mediaportal.Blue and so forth.

Just wanted to say that I ordered a flirc (standard usb). I read that wakeup is possible (https://flirc.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/200904676-Getting-flirc-to-wake-up-your-computer) if your motherboard supports wake on usb. Most boards does this, I believe this is also the way iMon wakes up the PC (iMon is my current remote-solution).
