MP runs fine for music, pictures and watching dvds etc. However, no tv picture and locks up when i choose a program from the tv guide. Pretty sure it is the ati radeon 9200 drivers that are causing the problem as i get the same sort of error with win xp mce.

I am going to change the card in the next feww weeks (not easy to get here in the back of beyond in Spain!). So, for the moment i need to run mp with the 9200. Has anyone got a working system using this card? If so could he/she help by specifying the drivers they are using? Mine is the default win xp install - dated 23/10/04 and numbered as above.

I have tried several radeon omega drivers and also radeon catalyst 5.6 but none work.

I have googled and searched here for hours. I know there are many threads but those I have read don't help with this problem.

TIA

RJ

Thanks for confirming that - much as I suspected. The strange thing is, i had this card working OK with winxp mce when i first setup my htpc. MP also ran just fine.

I then wandered off to try mythtv (the rest of my network is linux based) but never got it working well enough. Then when i re-installed win xp mce, I got the dreaded "Your video or drivers are not compatible ... blah blah" with media centre, and the locking up issue with MP. I tried the omega drivers and that stopped the message, but all is clearly not right as I continue to get the same problem.

I'm just hunting out the logs and will see if that adds anything. However, i have seen references to the 9200 working ok with MP in this forum - was hoping someone might just tell me their driver details ....

Try an earlier version. I believe that MP now ONLY uses exclusive DirectX, when earlier versions had this as an option. Correct me if I am wrong.

it may be worth a shot

this may not be the answer but i had a problem like this. In the ati catalyst control center under video\all settings there is a checkbox called "let other hardware control video settings" or something like that....the idea is you want your ati card to have control...so whatever that checkbox is called keep that in mind and set it appropriately. I have roughly the same exact video card \ tv card as you do.... and defiantly keep VMR 9 on.

anyway...it may help...i don't know but it may be worth a shot.

    take care-

Mr X - thanks for the reply but it didn't help I'm afraid. I have confirmed that the problem is the 9200 card will not support DirectX version 9.0 which winxp mce insists on. Do you run your mp on winxp or mce?
