I've just set up MP with a Pinnacle 7010ix (just one DSat feed).

I've noticed that when I record a 4:3 channel, that if I watch another channel that is 16:9, then the aspect ratio is wrong being forced 4:3 (same as the channel being recorded).

Is this a MP bug or the tuner bug or a setup tweak I need to set..?

    Which codec are you using?

Sorry, I'm a complete newbie at this. I have no idea.

I just installed XP followed by MP, fired up TV Server, scanned for channels, created a Video folder, and then watched a few channels...

The default MPEG2-codec will not control Aspect Ratio correctly. Try and download ffdshow and use that as codec to see if it makes any change.

The best codec for mpeg2 aspect ratio is the PowerDVD one, this will also allow dxva (hardware acceleration on graphics chip) to be used, so if you have a copy of PDVD7\8 lying around then install it, or download the trial from cyberlink.com.

Then in MP config, change the view to expert mode (top right hand corner), Television tab select Cyberlink Video\sp decoder as mpeg codec, you can do this for video\dvd sections also.

Make sure under Directshow filter control, you have hardware acceleration enabled for the cyberlink codec\s

You should now get correct ratios.

    Regards

Well, I downloaded and installed the full K-Lite Codec pack* last night. This seems to have caused MP to completely misbehave! It is now sluggish and responds in a weird way (like when attempting to change channels it will just replay what I just watched!) and there 'break-up' in the UI!

Un-installing the codec pack, it still behave as above! Anyone seen the likes of this before?

*I thought this was a good idea, after installing it on another machine to get the latest ffdshow codec...

Try The Vista Codec Pack (ignore name), this is by far the best solution I have found, now check in the drop down boxes for what choices you have, enable anything that has hardware acceleration.

FFDShow Audio config\codecs MP1\MP2 change to libavcodec, this is necessary for some audio formats.

What graphics are you using btw, does it fully support DX9, if onboard memory, change the gpu memory setting from auto to 256mb.

Well, I downloaded and installed the Vista Codec pack. It did not improve the situation at all.

So I decided to re-install from scratch again - XP + service pack + updates, then the Vista Codec pack, then MP, then dvbfix. Then a channel scan, video folder creation etc. I then change the video codec to ffdshow.

Now I do not get auto aspect ratio. If I set the aspect to (2) Normal, everything is wide screen, and if I set the aspect to 4:3 with bars - all channels are 4:3!

I have a GeForce 6600LE and it does support DX9.

Do the install yourself and ignore codec-packs. I use PowerDVD 8, ffdshow, Haali Media Splitter and AC3 filter. That's it...I haven't really found any video-file that cannot play on that config.
