With as many reports of problems with ATI Catalyst version levels causing problems with MediaPortal, shouldn't there be a news item on the home page of MediaPortal to help relieve some of the stream of questions appearing and hopefully calm some of the frustrations?

how about the community starting a wiki page where they list CC driver versions (and others if there are importand infos) and what happens when using then? ;)

a bit more contribution in that sector would be highly appreciated.

I actually thought of gathering all the ATI info and creating a WIKI entry, but many of the people who grab MP and install don't go through the wiki to try and figure it out. Many people, it seems in my opinion, just pick a forum and start asking questions without even searching, then they complain about the problems they are having. I was hoping that a news entry on the home page may have a two fold effect. 1) Get the attention of new MP installers (maybe wishful thinking on my part) and 2) Perhaps get the attention of ATI (this I know this has higher aspirations).

OK - Tomorrow (today I am being slammed at work) I'll dig into the posts and try and come up with an entry for the wiki regarding this issue.

we should simply have a "drivers information page" which is then hopefuly updated by the community.
you could have an discussion thread for each released driver version.

the link to this wiki page could be placed at the homepage. but i have no clue where in the current template

will be happy to assist in providing information on the ATI stuff. Possibly going to a motherboard/chipset. level so people building can follow a step by step guide to each type of motherboard/chipset?????

I know there are a mass amount of them but it may help point out which boards are good/easy to setup.

From a Wiki point of view, very weary of updating as I have never done that before and don't know where to start...

I can handle the wiki end of it, if you want to gather the info - That would be great!

Leave it with me and I will do this over the weekend. got to kick the wife and kids off the machine to complete the doco's. I will add screen shots and include the codec setup's (always a pain).

I have my daughter home this weekend and if I spent too much time on computer this weekend it wouldn't be a happy house, so thanks much!! I will take it from there to get it into the wiki.

P.S. After reading ::this thread:: the sooner the information can be known about the downfalls of using ATI video chipset (at least using the newer drivers) the better the users will have a better experience with MP. BTW - Have you heard if any other HTPC software has had similar problems like MP has with ATI?

Here ia a quick guide. Ran out of time this weekend as a 20 year school reunion rendered me completely useless. I think the Ice in the bourbon was off....:D

    See attachment

I will continue writing a document on the Motherboard/Chipset that I am using (ASUS M2A-VM HDMI) over the next week or so and re-post once completed.
