ATSC Channel Scan - Improperly Updating Once Chanel (1 Viewer)

I have added a Hauppauge 2250 tuner card and I am having a bit of trouble getting one of my channels to scan in properly. Basically, the scan is getting the channel, then later in the scan another channel "updates" and overwrites the channel instead of adding a new one.

Here are the details, and I have attached the logs (TV log shows 45.1 being updated with 47.1 later - last scan in the log).

When doing a scan, channel 45.1 is CBS44, channel 45.2 is FOX44. Both of these channels are add fine during the initial scan. When the scan gets to channel channel 47, CBS44 is "updated" with 47.1 (which seems to be a duplicate broadcast of FOX44). So, when I select CBS44 in the program guide, I get another channel and never get CBS.

How can I prevent the MP Scan from thinking 47 should update 45?

Thanks for any help...

hopefully @mm1352000 the "tv server guru" will take a look at your log files. I looked and got a bit confused by what I was seeing. It sort of looks like there are 2 channel scans running at the same time. I also have a problem where 2 of my SF Bay area stations are on 2 different physical channels. You could try the following. Do 2 scans, 1st scan all channels, then start a 2nd scan, press "abort scan" after 45 is done but before 47 starts.

Based on your channels it looks like you are in the Evansville, Indiana area. If you look at http://www.rabbitears.info/market.php scroll down to find Evansville (click on it) then press "expand/contract all" you can see a list of of the local channels. Looking at this, FOX44 is on 2 different Physical Channels,

    CBS44 Phys=45, ATSC=44-1 (1080i)
    FOX44 Phys=45, ATSC=44-2 (480i) and
    FOX44 Phys=47, ATSC=47-1 (720p).

Maybe "mm" can suggest a way to manually edit the Channel Details to clean this up. You might try editing the CBS44 entry and replacing 1st "Channel" field with 45. See "ATSC details" in the following wiki

Thanks for the response. I have basically come to the same conclusion as you this afternoon... (I am in the Evansville market).

    Scanning hits channel 45
    CBS44 gets mapped from 45 to 44.1
Fox44 gets mapped from 45 to 44.2 (this is the SD)

Scanning then hits channel 47 which then remaps CBS44 to 47.1, which is the Fox HD channel. It SHOULD have remapped 45/44.2, not 45/44.1. This gave me two Fox channels, one SD (labeled CBS44) and one HD.

Right now I have manually edited both channels, CBS back to 45/44.1 and the Fox to 47/47.1. The hard part was getting the details of the manual mapping. I had to do a re-scan, let it mess things up, copy the setting, then set everything back by hand.

So the real questions now are, why did it do this, and how can I prevent it from messing everything up on a re-scan, which I do periodically, looking for new channels?

mm will need to give the real answer, but MePO ATSC scanning does not seem to expect some USA real world complications. when MePo did the scan it saw

    CBS44 Freq:-1 ONID:0 TSID:1101 SID:3 PMT:0x30 FTA:True LCN:10000 phys:45 maj:44 min:1 mod:Mod8Vsb
    FOX44 Freq:-1 ONID:0 TSID:1101 SID:4 PMT:0x40 FTA:True LCN:10000 phys:45 maj:44 min:2 mod:Mod8Vsb
    FOX44 Freq:-1 ONID:0 TSID:1101 SID:3 PMT:0x30 FTA:True LCN:10000 phys:47 maj:47 min:1 mod:Mod8Vsb

the fact that all of these use TSID:1101 (0x44D) causes complications.

    Hello ptmurphy

Scanning then hits channel 47 which then remaps CBS44 to 47.1, which is the Fox HD channel. It SHOULD have remapped 45/44.2, not 45/44.1. This gave me two Fox channels, one SD (labeled CBS44) and one HD.

Okay, so here are the channels you're referring to.

    Physical 45:
    2013-05-10 20:44:30.847971 [(16)]: atsc:Found: ATSC:tv:unknown CBS44 Freq:-1 ONID:0 TSID:1101 SID:3 PMT:0x30 FTA:True LCN:10000 phys:45 maj:44 min:1 mod:Mod8Vsb
    2013-05-10 20:44:30.848971 [(16)]: atsc:Found: ATSC:tv:unknown FOX44 Freq:-1 ONID:0 TSID:1101 SID:4 PMT:0x40 FTA:True LCN:10000 phys:45 maj:44 min:2 mod:Mod8Vsb

    Physical 47:
    2013-05-10 20:39:21.308530 [(16)]: atsc:Found: ATSC:tv:unknown FOX44 Freq:-1 ONID:0 TSID:1101 SID:3 PMT:0x30 FTA:True LCN:10000 phys:47 maj:47 min:1 mod:Mod8Vsb

Why does 47.1 get mapped to 44.1?
Because the TSID and SID values are the same, which TV Server interprets to mean "they are the same channel".

So the real questions now are, why did it do this, and how can I prevent it from messing everything up on a re-scan, which I do periodically, looking for new channels?
    The why is explained above.
    Unfortunately you can't prevent this.

Thanks for the response mm. Makes sense - just stinks that i have to manually fix this every time I have to do a scan, because I forget how to do it!! LOL
