Hello,

My problem is... I have tv working perfect, But i have 2 issues with movies (with my screwing around i have got these two outcomes) when it try to play HD movies i just cant get them all working. Some work fine, others show the first frame and play sound.

The 2nd issue is that i cant get sound at all on them (or its just 2.0 not 5.1) and i dont get voices.

Im connecting my sound with 3x RCA to to the pcs audio to a receiver. Any help please?

Thanks.

when it try to play HD movies i just cant get them all working.

Powerdvd's h.264 codec, does not play poorly encoded video, your choices, use mpc as video codec (uses dxva or software mode for decode, get the SAF) or any other h.264 capable codec.

Re-encode every badly encoded video file using spomething like xvid4psp, this will encode correctly, so dxva works, but you are looking at 3-6 hrs encoding time using the 21 ultra setting (best compromise).

How can i tell if they are badly encoded? and any ideas which setting to use for audio, powerdvd works fine for tv (using splidf setting) but on movies (only HD) i hear nothing.. (tv is freeview HD)

EDIT: now seem to be able to play all of my HD movies. (thanks for the SAF) but to get TV working again i had to reinstall powerdvd.

Now the only issue that i have is that there is now sound on HD movies. (sd are fine)

If you're using analog connections to your amplifier have you specified your speaker set-up in the Sound section of Windows Control Panel? You should set it to 5.1 (assuming that's what you have). If it's set to the default of stereo speakers, windows will only ever try to output two channels of sound. You will also need to use something other than S/PDIF as this is for a digital coaxial connection through a single cable. If your existing codecs don't work you could try installing ffdshow and using its AC3 and DTS decoders.

Im not sure what settings i need. to make it push the raw signal so my receiver can do the decoding (yes the reciver can do DTS etc) and it is set to 5.1 in the sound drivers.

You're using the wrong kind of cable. You can't transmit the raw signal using RCA cables. You'll need to use a coaxial cable from your S/PDIF out (probably orange) to the corresponding input of your receiver.
