I recently installed Win7 on a second partition of my HTPC.
I am using the codecs that come with Win7 and I have the following audio problems with Live TV:
If I don't activate the option "Prefer AC3" then I have no sound at all during LiveTV that means neither AC3 channels nor Stereo channels give me audio. If I activate "Prefer AC3" option, then I get audio for channels that have AC3 sound but stereo channels still have no audio.

Is this a bug of the recent SVN or do I miss something? Is there anywhere a setting for the MS codecs?

AW: Audio problems with Win7 codecs

Is really nobody using the MS DTV-DVD audio codec for LiveTV and having the same issue?

Below you will find the graph when I am watching a LiveTV channel that has stereo audio.
The interesting thing is that the input audio of the MS DTV-DVD audio filter is "MPEG1Payload" and the output is "DOLBY_AC3_SPDIF Audio". Unfortunately, I am hearing nothing! Also, my receiver shows "Stereo" which normally means that no signal is sent from the PC via HDMI. Video is fine.

Any hint is welcome because I think that the MS DTV-DVD codecs have been designed for LiveTV and they work with Win7 MediaCenter so it should be possible to use them with MP as well. I don't want to install any other codecs, if not really needed...

AW: Audio problems with Win7 codecs

OK, I did some more testing amd I found out that if I am playing a TS file that contains a LiveTV channel with Stereo sound with Windows MediaPlayer, the graph looks different.

WMP seems to hand over MPEG2_Audio as sub type to the DTV-DVD audio decoder instead of MPEG1Payload that is handed over by TsReader.

devs: Could someone please look into this?

AW: Audio problems with Win7 codecs

Ok, I solved the problem by myself.
The root cause was the crappy Catalyst 10.1 driver along with its HDMI audio driver.
First, I installed the Realtek "ATI HDMI audio driver". This solved the "no audio" issue for stereo TV channels as mentioned in this thread.
However, I still had the problem that the HDMI audio device did not survive standby. That means after standby, the Catalyst switched from HDMI to DVI and the HDMI audio device did get disconnected!

So I switched back to Catalyst 9.8 and the Realtek driver and now I do have audio for stereo TV channels and no standby issue any more.

    However, two problems remain:
    1. Das Erste cannot be tuned sometimes
    2. HD channels give me blocky picture and are therefore not usable

But these are not in the scope for this thread...
