    Hi all,

I've got a WinVista32bit HTPC working like a charm. Now I wanted to try Microsoft Win7 dshow filters for livetv, so I've installed Win7 Enterprise 32bit (dual boot). So fresh Win7 installation + MePo 1.1.2 + only SAF 5.00 installed for dshow filters. Nothing else that can interfer in any way.

With specs stated above, I CAN'T play any video from MyVideos (internal player), out of .ts (controled by tv codecs section in Config) and DVDs (controled by DVD codecs section in Config), with setting "automatic decoder settings". I get a message saying it's impossible to play, and then video and audio codec from video. Obviously, any of the videos I've tested plays perfectly in GraphStudio/WMP/MPC-HC, and any dshow based player. This is log when failed playing a video:

It can't be a MP bug, but system is so fresh that I can't think of anything I've done to break this... so... any idea what's going on? I've spent many hours configuring the new installation, but I didn't try playing a video till now (I assumed that would be working)... :( I wouldn't like to start from scratch again (that should fix the problem, I guess).

    Thanks for any hint.

    bye!

EDIT: You are my last hope/step before having to wipe all system and start from scratch... :( I've tried everything I knowlegde let's me think of...

    Hi there,

I think you will find alot of people do not use "automatic decoder settings" - they manually define the correct codec for each type/use.

So to sumarise your issue - you can not play certain videos through "My Videos"? Which type are these videos? DVDs? .ts format?

    Thanks,

    J.

I know many people fix their codecs, but I would like let directshow choose (I've personalised my merit values)...

Very quick overview of my issue: if "automatic decoder settings" activated, I can't play ANY video. I can only play videos which codecs are fixed in tv and dvd sections (so, .ts and DVD/isos).

In the meantime, till I find a fix, I've configured fixed codecs... All is working this way, but I would like to know what's happening anyway.

    bye!

    Hi there,

You've mentioned "fixing" the codecs in TV and DVD, but what about videos?

All I can suggest is you spend a lot of time with graphstudio when playing all your different videos, and adjust the filters/merits until it works.

What is the benefit of using "automatic" when you can specify everything? (I am always wary of intelligence/automatic settings, when you can define stuff) - I'm old school :D

    J.

I like to play with merits, so I'm sure any dshow player in my system is using same filters to play anything (I use ffdshow for everything except some specific decoders that I've found to perform better that ffdshow). That's the main reason I would like this settings to work under MP. The other reason is that I don't like something in my system that I can't explain or I can't do... ;)

Merits are not responsible for this behaviour, I'm sure. I've tried many different videos with many different containers (.mov, .avi, .mpg, .m2ts, .mkv) and video/audio codecs... Nothing is working except .ts and DVDs. It can't be a merit conflict/missconfiguration.

I've been using MP since 0.2.3.0, and I was pleased when I saw that I could set automatic decoder settings, based on merits. In fact, any other codec out of mpeg/h264 is choosen automatically anyway... I can't understand why this setting is not working... :(

    Thanks for your help.

This MP feature IS working under my still working Vista HTPC... Do you mean is not working under Win7? If so, it would be good to write it down somewhere in the wiki.

BTW, it would be goo news, as this would confirm I don't have any problem in my system... it's just a matter that MP&Win7 compatibility for this special feature.

    Thanks.

I have the same problem under windows7, graphstudio can render all my files, but media portal cant render a single one with this setting enabled.

Why do i want to use it? Simply, media portal is unable to hook a audio processor codec in between. This means that 5.1 flac/AAC/Mp3 cant be re-encoded to AC3 for spdif output. I simply want to hook ffdshow audio processor or ACfilter into the graph, so that any none Ac3/dts source is reencoded to Ac3 and also resampled to 48khz, for compatible spdif output.

So yeah a hint in the wiki would be a start, since it took me 5 hours to try understand why this isn't working at all, until i found this post. Also simply grey this option out if windows7 is detected, so its not this confusing.

    Thx Andy
