Hi, I don't know if it's the good place to post this, modos, please move it to the right place if needed.

I have a really strange thing happening here :

When I switch on my TV, not waking it from sleep, my computer powers on itself automaticly.

I didn't set up anything so it can start this way. Both TV and computer are powered off, not sleeping.

This thing is in fact really cool, i don't need to turn on my comp when i switch on my TV but I don't understand how that's possible.

If someone's got an idea about that, comments are welcome

Is your TV plugged into a Master/Slave "plugsocket", bleh not remembering the bloody word Well the sockets you get power out.

And on a 2nd thought, how are they connected? HDMI atleast is able to swith on devices.

the power cord is a standard one. plugged on it : TV, HTPC, homecinema amp.
I don't switch off the amp at night, just the TV and HTPC.
The only cable between them is a S-VHS one

I've never seen a thing like that.

The fact is that I like this "feature" but I want to know why it happens.

is it possible that the agp video card wakes up the PC? maybe it receives some signal from the s-video cable and then wakes up the pc? you should look into BIOS to see if AGP is able to wake up the system

does it only happen if you turn the TV on with the remote, or by the swithc on the unit?

It could alos be a spike on the power line when the TV turns on. Try plugging in a vacuum cleaner to that outlet and see if it does the same.

Is Wake On LAN or Wake on Ring activated? Maybe the tv causes some interference on one of these lines and wakes up the PC.

nothing to wake th PC set up in the bios.
I didn't try the vacuum cleaner, it's not a bad idea. we'll see if it's the AGP card that wakes up the PC or somthing with my power outlet

(by the way i hope this "feature" will last, it's really nice just to push one button to get the whole thing starting)
