Hi guys, a friend gave me some movies in avi format + srt files.
Now I would like to be able to play them without having to convert them but I don't have a clue what to do.
I did a search and found some information about a plugin but that thread is over a year old so I wonder if this is still the way to achieve it.

Something else that I tried, is to turn subtitles on in the client configuration (movies) section but that didn't change anything.

    Any help is appreciated.

To incoporate srt files into your video playback, you need any one only of these installed, haali media splitter\vobsub\ffdshow tryouts, so you may already have one of these installed.

FFDShow setting need to be enabled as per picture

Both vobsub and haali need autoload vsfilter set to yes if using either of them.

Hi Ray\PD, THANK YOU FOR REPLYING.
I don't understand this part of your response:

"you need any one only of these installed, haali media splitter\vobsub\ffdshow tryouts"

Do you mean that I need one of them and whichever I use, they have to autoload vsfilter, is that correct?

I have just finished reinstalling my system because I had a problem with MS SQL which I didn't succeed to solve.
For now, I have no codecs installed yet because I'm a little puzzled whether/which I have to install.

    Yes

Peter, i just use the Vista codec pack, everything then works fine with windows and MP, but you need a seperate mpeg2 codec like PowerDVD (download trial supplies this), or you might like to try the SAF from hoborg.

Doesn't ffdshow do this: play mpeg2?
I'm looking at the codec wiki and before with v0.2.3 I also had an issue with this so I installed ffdshow.
Now, I assumed that I didn't need anything extra since during the installation of MP I was asked what I would play so I thought it would install these ?basics?.

You see, I'm a little bit in the dark regarding codecs and movie formats.
