    Synopsis:

AVIs play fine but then lockup MP as soon as playback ends with a blank screen. Have to use Task Manager to kill MP.

MPGs and WMVs play without problem.

The latest driver is 14.7 from intel for your graphics, which may be a reason, so try updating.

    What type of AVI?
Are there more than one type? I don't know. Whatever kind my camera generates. It's a Canon SD400.

What codecs do you have installed (any codec packs?)
I havent installed anything other than XP Pro and MediaPlayer 10. So whatever comes with those. And MediaPlayer 10 plays all my AVIs without problem.

Nothing helpful in there that I can see.

The latest driver is 14.7 from intel for your graphics, which may be a reason, so try updating.
    Did not solve the problem.

You can grab a program called GSpot, that will tell you what type of AVI it is. Also maybe a sample clip so we can test it for you as well?

I have exactlly the same trouble with a Canon G6, the camera records in MJPEG, these files run fine in WMP and Quicktime, but nogo in MP, totally freezes MP and need to press the windows button then ALT/CNTL/DEL to get out where it is listed as Not Responding, an application shutdown results in a desktop with no start bar, requiring a full system restart, so MP is pretty unhappy with playing these files.

can't help the main issue, but if you want to get the start bar back, you can end the "explorer" process in the task manager.

When I had lots of crashes with a very much earlier version of MP, I turned off the option in MP to hide the task bar and then activated the windows task bar auto hide function. I still have it that way and it works just as well, but means that if MP ever crashes I still have a task bar.

    CODEC ISSUE

I had exactly the same problem with the videos my Canon Ixus i generates.

The reason for this black screen is the codec that comes with WindoswXP

    just install ffdshow
when installing deselect all options except MJEPG.

With this codec installed everything is fine, no more issues with MJPG :)

btw. MediaPortal has not freezed, becasue of the codec issue the GUI is gone. if you press the TV Button on your reote you get to MyTV and see the GUI again too, until you stop MyTV, then GUI is black again ;)

I have to say since installing the 2.0.4 update my Videos also all display a blank screen after playback (xVid, WMV, etc.). Pressing the "green button" to go home solves the problem though for me.

So, it worked fine with 2.0.3 but not with 2.0.4. Perhaps there is a problem with not refreshing the GUI after playback has ended which is solved by calling a different page and thus forcing a GUI update?
