Backup/restore of TVseries, like with MovPicNFO? (1 Viewer)

First, I love you all!

I tried MovPicNFO from https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/movpicnfo.108725/ and it worked like a charm! Now I feel more safe. With 2341 movies, and some private made, it would be a hard time to get all back with the same settings if the database would get corrupt.

A question, is there something similar for My TVseries plugin that can write NFOs, save fanart etc?

I have 281 ordinary series + own "series" with 5875 episodes that I would like make a backup of, like normal series, personal vacation "movies/series" and educational series (like Photoshop courses etc) with fanart and watched status that I would like to save.

Have you asked the developers of MovPicNFO if they are thinking of doing the same with TV-Series?
They have something that work for Movies, almost half the work is done (y)

    Yes, and they say
    Hi.
will this also work with the My TVseries plugin?
No and it will never, if you ask me. This is asked from users since 2008 but the authors of TVSeries don't like this, so it has the lowest thinkable priority - means this never will be happen.

But it only will take some weeks until the .nfo Support for movies and series is available in MP2. The movies part is working already here on my local test system and the series part is based on the movies part, so not that much work to finalize this.

For pure backup purposes you also can make a copy of the tvseries database and keep it on a safe place.
But that was before, and now is today. So maybe today it's possible?

Reason it works for MovPic is because that one supports custom scraper-scripts for import, and the XBMC one can deal with off-line imports.

The same does not work for MP-TVSeries, as it only supports on-line imports via TheTVdB.

You can however do it to some degrees with good ol' fashion actual backups. Wrote a script for that to do backups automatic, and even restore automatic when database corruption is detected (you can find it on this forum via a search). It doesn't handle the fanart folder, but that is easy to add, and you would preferably configure a seperate drive or like a USB thumb drive.

Another approach to safe guard watched flags is to use Trakt plugin.

PS: If you want this full ability, then 'star' the developing tickets that ask for this feature, such as the one I created four years ago (did I not mention you will have to either be patient, or pick up a book on how to develop in C#?): http://code.google.com/p/mptvseries/issues/detail?id=548

I have now stared the proposal in https://code.google.com/p/mptvseries/issues/detail?id=548 After that it's at least in 17th place of most star:ed proposals, maybe some more people want to star this (y)? If three more star it, it will lunge up to a whooping 14th place ;)

This may be a slightly leftfield solution, but I have 4 machines in the house running MediaPortal - all connecting to one Argus TV Server. Moving Pictures and MP TV Series are all syncing with trakt to keep the watched flags and ratings updated, and more recently the resume data, so I can start watching a file in one room and resume it another.

The added bonus of this is that all of the machines act as backups to each other. I had my first corrupt MPTV Series database yesterday, when one machine crashed mid import (due to a graphics card issue) but I just grabbed a databse from another machine and copied it over the corrupt one.

I guess this does not help if you only have one machine running MediaPortal..

I have now also stared this one (now in 12th place ;) ), but I would also like to backup fanart and watched status. Anything that gets us closer to a offline backup and offline restore is a step forward! Somehow I feel these two should be merged, as they do sort of the same thing, offline backup and offline restore. For us paranoid ones..,

Trakt only work with mainstream TV series, not private vacation "series" and educational series like a random "private" Photoshop courses, but it's still a good thing (I use Trakt) if there is nothing else. Didn't know about the "the resume data, so I can start watching a file in one room and resume it another" feature though, sounds cool!

    EDIT
I guess this is also similar: https://code.google.com/p/mptvseries/issues/detail?id=272
"Coming from xbmc one of the greatest things about that project is that it allows external programs to generate the data for xbmc. There are a lot of great programs out there that do a very good job of fetching down episode data and all the pictures for it, season banners, tv banners, episode thumbs etc etc.", so I star that also. Same here, maybe merge with the others as they do sort of the same thing, offline backup and offline restore. Stared! Now in 5th place :)!

And https://code.google.com/p/mptvseries/issues/detail?id=280 is similar, "It'd be great if mptvseries parser looked inside each serie folder and tried to find all above stuff before it goes online.", but I would also like a export function for this. Stared (now in 18th place (y))!

So we have at least these "issues" that want something like a backup/restore solution:
    https://code.google.com/p/mptvseries/issues/detail?id=272 (5th place, 26 stars)
    https://code.google.com/p/mptvseries/issues/detail?id=120 (12th place, 12 stars)
    https://code.google.com/p/mptvseries/issues/detail?id=280 (18th place, 7 stars)
    https://code.google.com/p/mptvseries/issues/detail?id=548 (19th place, 7 stars)

In total 52 stars (so far)! Sounds like people like this feature (backup/restore with local files)... :D
