Hi,

I am a long time user of mediaportal but the one thing I have really not tinkered much with is the Codec section - primarily because I just do not get it.

Is there anyone that might be able to give me an idiot's guide to what everything is and, further, what settings/options I should be using on my setup?

Thanks very much.

Hi Azzuro,

Before I download and install this, do I need to uninstall anything first?

You have not installed Codec pack generic, with multi codec in All in One
Example : Klite Codec pack / Xp Codec pack
If no, you can install SAF without issue, Saf ask/detect if you have already codec installed. so don't worry ;)

Do you have issues with playback of videos/tv? If not, keep your current settings.. Personally I'm using the LAV codecs that comes with Mediaportal. Live (HD)TV and (HD)video's are running really smooth with it, and I have tried many others in the past. For me is LAV absolutlely the best solution so far! :)

    Hi Azzuro,

I have successfully installed that Codec Pack now. Which options should I be using?

Just to confirm, I am running Mediaportal 1.2.3 and running through this AMP (http://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio-visual/hometheater-systems/home-theater-package/yht-294___l/) via HDMI to my TV.

At the moment, I have got the following settings:

    Codecs and Renderer:
    Video
Mpeg 2 = LAV Video Decoder
H.264 Video = ffdshow Video Decoder
Mpeg/AC3 = AAC audio decoder = LAV Video Decoder
Audio renderer = Default Direct Sound Device
    Automatic Decoder Settings = unticked

    TV
    Mpeg 2 = LAV
    H.264 Video = LAV
    MPEG/AC3 = LAV
    LATM AAC = LAV
    DD+audio = LAV
Audio renderer = Default Direct Sound Device

    Disc/Images
    DVD Navigator = DVD Navigator
DVD video decoder = Microsoft DTVDVD
DVD audio decoder = Microsoft DTVDVD
Audio renderer = Defaul Direct Sound Device

    Use AC3 filter = unticked
    Turn off DxVA = unticked

    Video Renderer
Video Mixing Renderer 9 = unticked
    Enchanced Video Render = ticked

    Monogram AAC Decoder
Speaker output properties = no channel mixing

    MPC - MPEG2 Decoder
    Enable planar... = ticked
Always display forced subtitles = ticked
Set interlaced flag for output = unticked
    Deinterlace method = auto

Any pointers of what to change would be very much appreciated.

    Alex

    Hi Powermarcel,

Sorry - looks like I wrote my reply above at the same time as you.

So you think I should just leave LAV for everything?

Also, later versions of mediaportal had an option to say which audio formats can be bistreamed to the amp, but I am stuck with MP1.2.3 which does not seem to allow this. How can I change this setting?

To Bitstream audio set you MP Codecs for LAV and there should be a separate LAV Audio program you run to set your settings in (look in All Programs) there you can set all your bitstreaming information etc. You can also take a peek around the LAV Video Settings as well but I believe they are usually pretty good as is. I love the LAV filters as they seem to be the smoothest codecs for all HD and SD media.
