best HD codec for video quiality (1 Viewer)

Hi,

there is always a topic about resource cosuming of hd decoding, but I want to know wich is the best codec and configuration for the best image quality in HD (720p for now).

is not important if its software or hardware DX or anything, just wich is the best codec and configuration.

If you say more about your system (OS, gfx, CPU) then it might be easier....

FFdshow should have no problem playing 720p files with that spec.

Here is a good tutorial for HD playback with ffdshow, not my work this is what I use on my main pc




This setup is only for dualcores+ It works great on my Core2Duo, 1024MB (DX9) videocard and 4GB RAM.

1. Download and install MPC (media player classic),
ffdshowbeta5_rev2033_20080705_clsid, AC3filter and the
latest haalimediasplitter.

2. MPC setup (options):
2.1 Add ffdshow decoder and AC3Filter to external filters and
check "prefer" on both.

2.2 Go to Playback/Output and check VMR9 (renderless),
DirectX9 on both realmedia and quicktime, Use texture surfaces 2D,
Resizer Bicubic A 1.00 (PS 2.0) and VMR9 mixer checked.
Directshow audio: choose your sound!

3. ffdshowbeta5_rev2033_20080705_clsid settings:
3.1 Codecs = libavcodec on all

3.2 Postprocessing: Presets/Automatic quality control = full, processing
strength 200% processing method: mplayer - accurate deblocking = checked,
level fix - luminace and full luma range =checked

3.3 Deinterlacing: Cubic Blending with swap fields checked

3.4 Sharpen: unsharp mask strenght 40

3.5 Bitmap overlay: horizontal 50%, vertical 50%, Alignment: ffdshow default
Mode: blend - opacity 100%

3.6 Decoder options: IDCT = auto, Number of decoding threads (cores ) = 2
(quadcores = 4)
Workaround encoder bugs: autodetect and edge checked
Error resilience: careful, Error concealment: guess MVS + deblock
Quality control = both drop frame and skip h264 = checked

Make sure to have the number of decoding threads set on 2 (Quadcores = 4)

3.7 Output: All checked except set interlace flag, DV and flip video

3.8 RGB conversion ITU-R 601, contrast = Full range

3.9 Also in overlay/queue & misc check queue output samples and
enable queue in VMR9-YV12

Nice one Ryan...Does this set up enable you to play armands trailers as i keep getting unable to play message..
I can play hd720 no problem..
