Hello,

I am having an install problem. Every time I try to install I receive the following error: "Please shutdown media portal to continue the installation RETRY/CANCEL". I have exited media portal, checked the task manager for any media portal related applications. I changed my media portal configuration to not run at startup and restarted with the same error. I tried running in safe mode with network support and still the same error. The application name I am running is Moving Pictures-1.0.1-setup.exe. I am running Media Portal version 1.0.2.0. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You

Scott

This indicates that the installer is not being allowed to copy the new DLL on top of the old one. I am curious what system configuration you have that causes this. The setup program should receive elevated permissions on startup (you will be prompted if you're in VIsta or Windows 7 where this is required), so this shouldn't be the problem. Just manually deleting the existing movingpictures.dll file from your plugins folder would probably resolve the issue. If Windows says you cant delete the file because it is in use, then you have something running that is using the movingpictures.dll...

The most obvious work around is to use the ZIP file rather than the installer, available on the Google Code page. If you post additional information though I'd be happy to try to help debug whats up with the installer...

Thank You for the ideas. I renamed the moving pictures.dll file to moving pictures.bak without any issues. I had the same problem with the install after doing that. I will try the ZIP file next. I am running on Windows XP SP3, not sure what other information you would need about the system. It's a pretty generic install just used for Media Portal.

Do you have any unusual install locations? Have you modified your mediaportaldirs.xml file? And if so what is your plugin dir location?

I haven't modified anything.

install folder is program files\team media portal\media portal (I assume this is standard)

plugins are in the plugins folder in the media portal directory.

I have never modified any of the xml files.

I had the same problem with a fresh install of win7 and mediaportal, so I know there wasn't a conflict with the existing files being overwritten.

I ended up just taking the movingpictures.dll from a working system and manually putting it there and worked fine.
