Big MakeMKV files very very slow accessing (1 Viewer)

I just put a BluRay disk through MakeMKV and got a big (18GB) mkv file. No problem - lots of disk space. However it's taking an age to jump around the file or to resume. Like 3-5 minutes. Configuration is as per below.

File works fine in VLC.

Any thoughts?

Please post logs, maybe those show where the delay is.

Logs attached. Steps I took.
1) zeroed the logs
2) started MP and navigated to the 18GB mkv file (title00.mkv) and selected "play from start". Took a few seconds to start
3) Used right arrow to step forward 3 mins. Nothing happened fo about 5-8 seconds then sound track restarted. Video stayed frozen until I stopped it (pressing stop) after about 40 seconds
4) Then selected "Resume from 3 mins". I left it for about a minute 30 seconds but nothing happened so I stopped it, shut MP down and collected the logs.

Smaller avi and mkv files work fine. including 5GB HD files. The file in question works fine in VLC

BTW - I moved up to SAF 5.02 (released) on recommended setting as part of the diagnosis process.

Is anyone using very large MKV files (>18GB) successfully?

Hi.
No problems with large MKV . I have some 30GB++ ones here.. Navigation is good. It takes a little, but that's normal due the great file size.. Especially if they stored on network shares...

But I never use codec packs at all. Way too much unneeded stuff within such. This included SAF too. On Win7 you really don't need any codecs at all. Only a mkv splitter such as LAVF or Haali is needed as Windows 7 did not support mkv at it's own. All other things are just "fine tuning". But fine tuning can't be done by an "all in one" package. Especially as every system needs something different for optimal performance and quality... SAF is OK for Windows XP as XP was never supposed to be a Multimedia OS. But with 7 the Age of codec packs really is over...

Your Problems could be reated to mkv splitter. I did not exactly know how big sized files Haali supports (Haali is a lot older than LAVF and is afaik included in SAF 4 and 5).

Tried uninstalling SAF and just installing LAVF splitter (using the MS & MP supplied codecs). Behavior was still poor. Jumping foward and back didn't work. FF did. Tried with SAF 600 (includes LAVF) but MP stopped working.

I'll collect logs once I can eject the kids off the system!

Well, always test video playback using Graphstudio (START-SAF-Tools-Graphstudio - if you gave SAF installed).
You can eliminate player problems/settings.
If your video plays fine here, codecs are not the issue.
It is usefull to locate the real problem.

Not true, SAF5 is based on Gabest (MPC-HC) splitters
