Hi,

I have experianced a little bit of Jriver media center, which is (by many threads and opinions I've read) is by far the superior bit-perfect audio player.

I have decided to look elsewhere due to recent problems I encountered, also I'm not feeling its the best to my needs.

I tried Mediaportal, which looks awesome, have seen and read that bit-perfect audio can be achieved by using PureAudio plugin which I installed.

My question is, does the PureAudio plugin work with movies too? or better yet, how can bit-perfect audio be achieved while watching movies. No search I've tried have came up with an answer to this question.

Also, Coming from jriver which internally supports almost all required formats of files, I tried to play a 720/1080p mkv file that it did not recognize, I then installed k-lite codec pack (which is by many years of experiance) is by far the best codec pack package that causes no faults or problems with its many codecs, using that I've played the mkv file, BUT, is this the way its supposed to work?

While looking for a good htpc software, (as the wiki/faq mentions) there is no reason why I should hand-pick and experiments with millions of different codecs to see what fits and works well, this is a little bit weird for me.

Hoping to get answers, I have a professional sound system (not home professional, but REALLY commerical professional) and want to get the best out of the tons of money I've invested in it.

Thank you all.

What is "bit perfect Audio". Audio is a analogous thing (sure You know :). All audio is converted to digital bits 12,14,16 22 bits or whats ever and a sample rate xx kHz, and than in the movie world filtered and compressed DD DD true MP3. Don't think You can find any mkv with 5-7 channel "true" lossless compressed audio.

The meaning of bit-perfect is to send the audio directly to the soundcard without any interferance/resampling/processing by the windows kernel or mixer.
You are welcome to search google to better understand, this subject is also entirely new to me too..

First of all, thanks to everyone!

After a lot of messing around ((to tell you the truth, I have no idea why this should be so complicated !)
I've managed to get my audio card to output asio via the pureaudio plugin, It didn't work well until now.

I've installed LAV filters and Reclock to get wasapi exclusive audio output, but now when I play movies it just doesn't play the sound because it tries to output 5.1 to 6.1 channels, I am only using stereo.

I saw that MPC AA decoder has a downmix option to stereo, but since I'm using reclock as the audio output, there is no such setting in LAV or relock.

My question is, if LAV are the best filters, why doesn't mediaportal uses it by nature?
And reclock, I saw its job is basically to sync the movie to the audio in respect to the fps of the movie, my TV is capable of doing 24/23hz so that should solve that problem (Please correct me if I"m wrong)

Is there any other filter/software I can use to get bitperfect audio from movies instead of reclock?
OR, better yet, is there a way I can downmix to stereo using lav/reclock configuration?
