a very strange problem, everytime i open a video from mediaportal menu the screen turns black and then back on and it starts playing the video with no problem. but, if i do this process for about 4 times, the screen will turn off (like when you install new nvidia drivers... flicker) but when it comes back i can only hear the sound and i have no vid it's black. If i close mediaportal (completely exit) and open it again then i can watch vids for about 4 times before it goes black again? any suggestions?

i have found that the problem disappears if i untick the option :"Use exclusive mode (avoids tearing, MP stays on top during media playback)" under the advance video renderer settings...
any suggestions?

Try using EVR for rendering rather than vmr9, it can be configured near the bottom of the list in the MP configuration program

Have you got aero enabled? EVR should have no tearing, looks great. Definitely a problem with your setup i'd say.

but when i set theme to windows vista standar there is no tearing..

Having aero on makes vista run much better (quicker and smoother) on my machine, and it must be on for EVR to work

so you are saying that if you have Windows Vista Home Basic you can't have EVR as renderer?.. i don't think so.
You only need .net framework 3.0 i think.

Nope never said that, but if you want EVR without tearing you need aero on, and if you want hardware accleleration of graphics you need vista. Although you can run EVR under XP their will be no hardware acceleration. All of this information is available elsewhere, have a read.
