Black screen with some SDTV channels (1 Viewer)

Hmm.. Having a look myself and I see that it tries to add the MPV video codec to the Graph, but fails, because it is not there. I have unregistered the MPV decoder, because I want mediaportal to use Cyberlink Video/SP decoder (PDVD7)

Could this be the reason MPEG2 channels dont work?

So the questions is HOW can i get mediaportal working as it should and load the "Cyberlink video/SP decoder (PDVD7)" because when it does, I am pretty sure it wll work again.

Must admit to uninstalling MPV\MPA codec myself, usually run gspot through some files just to make sure they are being recognised, Setting the M$ codecs first as defaults, i then use Vista codec pack for the rest, but select PDVD7 for h.264 (have to disable the in FFDShow video settings as well to be sure).

am having major problems getting normal Powerdvd7x settings to work atm, this may be down to the updated installer for me, not so sure in your case though.

Ok I will synchronize the TV server with the Mediaportal SVN build to the last one avaiIable and also will check with the Firedtv software as well. I did not know that the SVN build should be synchronized with the TV server.

Will let you know here what I found as soon as possible,

OK,

I tried to update to the latest versions of both Mediaportal SVN and TV server.. and that was not a good idea :-( . The TV server first could not find the TV tuner card, and then, after removing the TVLibrary Database it fails to scan for channels (see bug report in the TV server snapshot thread, I am not the only one).. So I must fall back to an earlier edition, but I will do that later, I need some sleep as well

But what I could try was the FireDTV Viewer, and that seems to have the same problems as Mediaportal (before I upgraded to the latest version) Same channels that do play and do not play. One difference, the channels that show a black screen and no audio, now sometimes do have audio, but very bad (lot of spikes and fuzz) so it is most probably a Codec issue, or merit issue.. Cyberlink video/SP decoder just fails to load, and I do not have a clue why, I have turned up the merit skyhigh, but this doesnt help.

bad cabling?

Because I cant get it right with the software, I am starting to suspect the hardware..

Because I wanted to see the news, i have connected the TV in the old fashioned way analog with the antenna cable, and guess what.. terrible picture! very snowy, which is an indication of a bad antenna cable.

So first thing I will do during the weekend is replacing the antenna cable and connectors in my house and try again. I also have bought a signal amplifier but did not really help, which also indicates to me the cable is of inferior quality. It must have been damaged during installation of a network cable that I pulled trough the same tube as the antenna cable. However it has been working for a few months, a little strange it has degraded so much suddenly, Also TV server shows degrading signal quality (it used to be near 100% for all channels), so bad it cant find some tv channels anymore. I tried to reconnect the cable at the connector, but it seems everytime I work on the cable its getting worse.

Yes.. BAD CABLING it was!!

I must deeeply appologize here for the developpers that may have broken their heads about my problem... It turned out to be just a matter of pulling a new quality Hirschman coax cable (15 meters).

Together with the signalamplifier I bought I now have a 100% signal strength and 100% signal quality.. did a complete rescan with Tv Server and voila! all channels working again!

One disadvantage.. I had to remove the network cable first, and I cant get it back now, so I have no internet on my HTPC now.. typing this on my laptop right now... well ok, no sweat, I will buy a Vista compattible wireless card..or USB stick... I had one, but that one is not Vista compattible (it crashed my system)

Again I am very sorry I did not think earlier about this, it first had to get so bad that I was triggered to the cable, channels were found before and therefore it was not so obvious that the cable was bad.

Anyway anybody who has been trying to help me, thank you very much.. it is great that Mediaportal has such an active community helping eachother and is the main reason for me that I made the choice to go for this mediacenter software. No other MCE alternative has such an active and supportive community.
