Hi all

I am having an issue where after a certain period when I am playing dvds or movies the screen goes blank. It doesn't happen when I am watching live tv. I have to stop the movie to go back to the menu and then restart the movie again.

I have disabled the windows screensaver and in the mediaportal general settings I have made sure the blank screen after idle period check box is not ticked, I do not know what else to check.

Any suggestions please.

* Edit - Possibly resolved. I disabled the computers ability to hibernate and havent seemed to have the blank screen anymore yet. Not sure why the computer would blank the screen when not being put into hibernation though.

* Edit - Scratch that. Not solved at all. I returned to look at live tv which was playing to find the csreen blank. How do i add my log file to this so someone with skills can tell me what is happening if anything?

Hi are you using ATI driver 7,2 from Feb 2007 as recommended, giving weird problems with newer drivers.

Logs on newer versions of MP can use the MPTestool2 (found in mediaportal folder) to generate zipped logs, then choose advanced functions in this post to upload and attach them here.

Hi. I actually thought I was all this time but I just checked and realised it is actually 7.1 so I will update that first and then if I still have issues, I will post a log.
    Thanks

    Hi again.
i fully intend to answer your question but I am having a hell of a time uninstalling my ati drivers.
It gave me the error "error initializing" when I ran the AI uninstaller and then uninstalled anyway but some part of it still remains. I have deleted all the registry keys but I am unable to delete all the ATI files as they ae in use.
Still working on using driver cleaner etc to remove them and then I will try again

Try reinstalling the old driver. This often fixes things so that you can then uninstall it successfully.

Regarding your black screen problem, did you check Windows Power Options to see if it's set to turn off the monitor?

    Hi Blackheart42

I am trying to reinstall the original driver now. I was unable to properly uninstall the old driver and install the 7.2 driver.
And regarding the black screen issue, yes I did check power options and all the options were set to never turn off.
    Thanks

Unfortunately, trying to uninstall this driver to install the 7.2 has toasted my system. I cannot install the driver correctly.
Anyone else using these drivers who may have a suggestion as to how to fully uninstall the previous ati driver and install 7.2?

Using a combination of driver cleaner, the ati cab uninstall utility, windows uninstaller, smartgart uninstaller and regcleaner I have managed to purge the system kind of and install the 7.2 driver kind of.
This system has been temperamental from the start and every step has been a struggle so I am reluctant to re format as I have already done so 5 times.
Now the problem I have is that the ATI catalyst driver when you go into the advanced view, has no settings at all.
I am only using the basic settings and have tried tweaking them as much as I can.
It will not allow me to change to an HDMI mode with a 25 hz refresh rate which is what my system was beforehand.
