New to MediaPortal today, can't find this elsewhere so go easy on me if it is please! :)

Not sure [confirm] is the correct prefix for this thread but it was the only option available.
Have installed 1.2.0RC as follows:
Server: Backend only
Laptop: Frontend only - works fine
Workstation: Frontend only - this is the one with the problem.

Configuration is set identical for both machines to talk to the server, the laptop displays live TV just fine. The Workstation though simply shows a blank screen with no audio. The .ts file is being created and it will play existing .ts files.

Log is attached, hopefully someone will spot the problem. Not in the log (it got deleted by the debug program) was an error.log which was complaining about being unable to connect to the SQL database. Also, the laptop creates an evr.log when TV is displayed. This file does not get created on the Workstation.

If you need any more info....

    Hi Aaron

Please check the firewall rules. MP needs to be able to access both public *and* private ports.

    Thanks for the reply mm.

Firewall settings are identical for both the laptop and the workstation.

All machines are members of the same domain.

The stream gets created, just doesn't get shown.

So when you say the settings are identical, can you confirm that both the laptop and the workstation are configured to allow MP to access the private port range? I ask again because recently we've had a couple of reports of the same symptoms, and in all cases the issue has been resolved by fixing the firewall rules. The issue only seems to show up on clients with W7 64 bit installed. Disabling the firewall on the workstation temporarily would be a quick way to rule this out...

I note that you seem to be using a share for the timeshifting directory. Is the laptop set up in the same way, and have you tried using a simple folder?

Will double check again in the morning as have turned machines off now but I did check all firewall entries side by side.

Both are running 7x64, installed from the same installer with the same settings.

The share is due to the server running on a 7x86 vm using vmware on a win 2k8 server with a small vmdk file for it and using a 2tb drive for the recordings.

The timeshifting files are being created as I mentioned before.

    Same with DirectX-Jun2010 Redist re-installed
Same with local folder (on TV-Server) used for timeshift buffer
VLC happily plays the timeshift .ts while MP is active and doesn't
Same with gentle.config and/or mediaportal.config copied from laptop

    Now I'm stumped!

    Anybody?

FWIW, I can schedule recordings quite happily on this box and they do get recorded.

    Hi again vfrvulcan

I'm equally as stumped as you. :(
I can tell you from a technical perspective that the problem is that video does not seem to be detected in the RTSP stream from the server, and this means MP does not use a video codec. What is the RTSP address that you're putting into VLC to test with?

    Thanks MM, appreciate the response.

I'm using the same address as lifted from mediaportal.log:
    rtsp://TELLY.spilling.local:554/stream2.0
