Hi Lie,
I am not an expert but will try to assist you.
1) Make sure that you are logged in as local admin and that you have internet connection
2) Uninstall MP from add or remove programs
3) Delete folders:
C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Team MediaPortal
4) Reboot PC
5) Uninstall MS SQL or MySQL from add or remove programs
6) Reboot PC
7) Delete contents of the following folders:
C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Temp (you might not be able to delete all of the files, so don't worry; also you will need to go to tools->folder options->view tab->select "show hidden files and folders" in order to view temp folder)
C:\Windos\temp (you might not be able to delete all of the files, so don't worry)
I would try to install MS SQL as per instructions TV-Server/install-SQL-Server - MediaPortal Manual Documentation ,
sql management studio and configre MS SQL it TV-Server/Configuration/SQL-Server - MediaPortal Manual Documentation.
Now try running setup and select "sql server is allready present and will be used for" when you reach "please select SQL server you want to use" step.
Finish install and click on tv server configuration (or MediaPortalConfiguration if it is single seat installation). At this stage you should be prompted for SQL user name and password, make sure that you press test button first to make sure that you didn't do typo and if it is successfull click on save.
Hope you will succeed with installation.
Sorry for providing you info on how to configure MS SQL and not MYSQL. Here is a link for MYSQL TV-Server/install-MySql5 - MediaPortal Manual Documentation
Thanks for this help but im gonn give up on mediaportal...
is there something else similar to this program??
No there isnt, really
I have looked into the Imon Mediacenter that came with my Antec Fusion case.. what a crap, didnt support HD TV at that time (they do now I believe, it is now called HDMedia).. main issue was that the remote didnt work as it should and that it crashed often.
I have used windows media center for a while, very nice to work with, but no support for HDTV, and it still doesnt.. This is one of the main reasons I went over to Mediaportal, the other is that Mediaportal fully supoorts my FloppyDTV C/CI tuner card, and that the guys from FloppyDTV support Mediaportal.
Take a look here for other Mediacenter softwares, you will see most of the free programs are limited to watching TV. Only MyTheatre and mediaportal can do more, where MyTheatre seems to have stopped in development long ago.
digital everywhere - Windows
Sage TV looks nice too, but is not free and for electronic TV guide you need to be in Canada or USA and for Europ you need a subscription for a TV guide provider. If you want to use clients, you need to buy additional software FOR EACH CLIENT!! So this could be quite costly in the end..look here:
SageTV® Media Center - PVR, Music and Photos for Windows and Linux PCs and consumer electronics devices
SceneoTV seems to be nice as well, but is very Germany region oriented, only consider if you are in Germany, beside that it is not for free and not so feature rich as Mediaportal.
sceneo.tv - Digital-TV am PC mit AbsolutTV, VistaTV und TVcentral
Note that MyTheatre also requires a lot of tinkering, just like Mediaportal, but does not have an active support forum like this.
My sugestion to you is follow the instructions of Vecnar, and you should be good to go. Once you have setup everything correctly it just works fine, it is only in the beginning Mediaportal needs a lot of attention. To get the basics working is a day work I guess. after that you may try exploring mediaportal, like setting up clients in the bedroom and try out all kind of plugins that are available.
Maybe you are a little scared of using the SQL software, well, you know, I do not know anything about SQL as well, and I do not want to know, I just followed the instructions, and it was OK, MS SQL runs now for more then a year without any problems.. SQL is a very solid program that hardly needs any attention. The only thing I have to do once in a while is deleting the database, because its gets corrupted , but if you know how to do that, it is as easy as using windows explorer.
First step for now could be filling out your system specs in your forum profile, and post here what you want to do with your mediacenter. Then we can help you further with some sugestions and good advise.
Lots
Okay what i would like to do is, to just install basic to watch TV that is all... i do not want to stream it online or anything just wann watch it at work.
and why do i need sql thing/
In case you do not need HDTV support, I would just use Windows Media Centre or another dedicated Free Tv program like this:
ProgDVB
or this:
Media Center PC Software - TVedia
But you still havent told us what your specs are, do you have a TV card? If you want to watch IPTV you should have a look at Home - Joost or ★★★★★*TVexe.com Home of TV, Free International Internet Television Download (Broadband)
