Hi Ben:
Re: Translated Title vs Original Title - first some background
As you probably know, IMDb offers alternate display titles - which is a special case of AKA titles. I think they do that when the movie is officially produced in more than one country. So in the case of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the official original title is listed as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (US) although the official International Title (and in Canada/UK/Australia) is Philosopher's Stone.
In My Films, the Grabber Engine searches and finds the redirects and, as you pointed out, can list them for you as possible matches (though it didn't for me when I used Get Internet Data with IMDB-Full in GUI). But AMCU is a bit 'smarter' and finds the original listing in IMDb and lists that title. I am not sure if there is a way for AMCU to retain the redirect title (I don't think so at present). However, if you choose UK as the country for alternate titles (and certification) and grab at least 1 AKA title, you will get Philosopher's Stone in the Translated Title field. If you use Translated Title as the secondary title, then it will display in My Films, but not as the main title in the list.
Note: you can select a different country for Titles vs Certification if you modify the individual grabber you use - best to save it under a new name for your mod
So, what are the options?
About MyMovies
I was really impressed with it when I tested all the catalog types My Films supports. Imo it has one of the nicest interfaces. As Guzzi said, the only advantage of AMC (and the reason I still use it) is the updating with your remote in My Films. Of course, you can still download and display extra fanart/covers in My Films, although you might have to do some magic if you want to display them in MyMovies as well. The only limitation IIRC with MyMovies is that it does not export some of the data to XML, like the media info and comments. Maybe if enough users request that for MyMovies, it can be added to the export and supported in My Films.
We did not really have many testers for MyMovies yet, so if you decide to keep using it, it will be helpful to get feedback about using it with My Films. I am not really a 'true' MyMovies user so not a great tester for that! If there is anything missing or incorrect on the My Films Wiki page re using MyMovies, catalog please fix it or let me know. Thanks!
BTW, if you frequent the MyMovies forum, it would be nice if you could post and let users know that MyMovies is now supported in MediaPortal using My Films. Thanks.
Hope that helps and does not muddy the waters even more!

- Use Translated Title as master titles - I am not sure that will work for you on IMDb as you won't always get UK titles and you need a title in the Translated Title field for every movie if you want to use it as Master title. (My Films does something about that but Guzzi will have to clarify as I have a mental block about it LOL)
- Use a site/grabber that does not force US titles as the main title (like TMDb) - remember IMDb is basically US - but ofc IMDb usually has the best/most complete data.
- Live with the translated titles and curse the US like the rest of us - even though they did fund most of the movies (or is that Japan/China now?
)
- Manually edit/switch the titles in AMC - that's what I used to do when it really bugged me
- Update the film Title in My Films GUI using a diff grabber - this is what I usually do now using TMDb-EN grabber because that site uses International Titles as the main title and because I am too lazy to get up from the couch and edit in AMC LOL (Get Internet film info > Select TMDB-EN grabber > Update only Original Title)
