    Hi Ben:

Re: Translated Title vs Original Title - first some background

As you probably know, IMDb offers alternate display titles - which is a special case of AKA titles. I think they do that when the movie is officially produced in more than one country. So in the case of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the official original title is listed as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (US) although the official International Title (and in Canada/UK/Australia) is Philosopher's Stone.

In My Films, the Grabber Engine searches and finds the redirects and, as you pointed out, can list them for you as possible matches (though it didn't for me when I used Get Internet Data with IMDB-Full in GUI). But AMCU is a bit 'smarter' and finds the original listing in IMDb and lists that title. I am not sure if there is a way for AMCU to retain the redirect title (I don't think so at present). However, if you choose UK as the country for alternate titles (and certification) and grab at least 1 AKA title, you will get Philosopher's Stone in the Translated Title field. If you use Translated Title as the secondary title, then it will display in My Films, but not as the main title in the list.

Note: you can select a different country for Titles vs Certification if you modify the individual grabber you use - best to save it under a new name for your mod

    So, what are the options?
    1. Use Translated Title as master titles - I am not sure that will work for you on IMDb as you won't always get UK titles and you need a title in the Translated Title field for every movie if you want to use it as Master title. (My Films does something about that but Guzzi will have to clarify as I have a mental block about it LOL)
    2. Use a site/grabber that does not force US titles as the main title (like TMDb) - remember IMDb is basically US - but ofc IMDb usually has the best/most complete data.
    3. Live with the translated titles and curse the US like the rest of us - even though they did fund most of the movies (or is that Japan/China now? ;))
    4. Manually edit/switch the titles in AMC - that's what I used to do when it really bugged me
    5. Update the film Title in My Films GUI using a diff grabber - this is what I usually do now using TMDb-EN grabber because that site uses International Titles as the main title and because I am too lazy to get up from the couch and edit in AMC LOL (Get Internet film info > Select TMDB-EN grabber > Update only Original Title)
So it all depends on how often the case arises for you which option is the best.

    About MyMovies
I was really impressed with it when I tested all the catalog types My Films supports. Imo it has one of the nicest interfaces. As Guzzi said, the only advantage of AMC (and the reason I still use it) is the updating with your remote in My Films. Of course, you can still download and display extra fanart/covers in My Films, although you might have to do some magic if you want to display them in MyMovies as well. The only limitation IIRC with MyMovies is that it does not export some of the data to XML, like the media info and comments. Maybe if enough users request that for MyMovies, it can be added to the export and supported in My Films.

We did not really have many testers for MyMovies yet, so if you decide to keep using it, it will be helpful to get feedback about using it with My Films. I am not really a 'true' MyMovies user so not a great tester for that! If there is anything missing or incorrect on the My Films Wiki page re using MyMovies, catalog please fix it or let me know. Thanks!

BTW, if you frequent the MyMovies forum, it would be nice if you could post and let users know that MyMovies is now supported in MediaPortal using My Films. Thanks.

Hope that helps and does not muddy the waters even more! :D

    Hi
    That is very useful, thanks.
One of the things that makes me like MyMovies at the moment is that you can select a particular DVD or BD version from a barcode and retrieve the cover for that specific disc as the fanart - ie you will recognise your own discs in MP rather than having the standard fanart from imdb. eg using the same example as above, imdb would provide the sorcerers stone poster, and i don't think it has one available for philosophers stone.

However this is pretty much also the thing I don't like. MyMovies uses its own online database (unlike the other tools that are supported by MyFilms, which tend to use a combination of different websites). I don't think it is possible to import IMBD data directly into MyMovies, for example, other than a list of actors and crew.

I don't know what I will be using yet - I downloaded Extreme Movie Manager to try as well. At first glance that looks rather good, both aesthetically and functionally.
(for example it is possible to run a stored combination of grabbers one after the other for one movie). Still no 'local' fanart though. Do you get that from anywhere or is it more trouble than it's worth? If it's just a few I guess it's easy enough to change it manually, but it would just be kind of nice to have a selection available and to say 'want that one'.

And sure, I will see if there is anything I can add to the relevant wiki once I am a bit more familiar with whichever one I choose.
    Ben

Hey Ben, XMM (eXtreme Movie Manager) is awesome, and the developer has been very supportive and willing to add things if he can to improve support in My Films. Thanks for reminding me which catalog lets you chain grabbers - I was just telling Guzzi about that awhile ago and forgot which catalog did it. ;)

Gianlk is a pretty expert XMM/My Films user, so maybe he can post some tips for you, or you could PM him, or post in XMM forums and see if anyone there knows more about fanart in XMM. I know you can add fanart to XMM, I remember it downloads it from TMDb the same as My Films, and the fanrart you download in XMM will display in My Films, but IIRC only one image at present due to the way XMM stores/names fanart. (I think you can also add local fanart images to XMM using the Cover Manager and drag and drop images to the fanart box.) As with any catalog you can use My Films to add more fanart images, but they only display in My Films, again due to differences in the way each catalog stores fanart (there isn't even a standard way in MediaPortal - each plugin does it differently!). However, once you have downloaded them you should be able to manually add them to XMM pretty easily. It's not perfect yet though!

EDIT: Several of the movie catalog apps support bar code reading

After reading from the beginning of this topic I am not sure if you have answered. I think you said you were working on it and then I thought I read it was fixed in 5.1.0.1468 which is the version I am running.

    First, thanks for the plugin

Description: I use Movie Collector to manage my movie database. I export the database to an xml file and use your plugin My Films to play my movies stored on local hard drives from within MediaPortal.

In the "Play Movie Info/Item for Storage File Info" I have "Source" selected.
This plays my HD-DVD files stored in mkv format, my DVD files stored in VOB format without problem.
However, it does not play my BluRay files stored in .m2ts format.
    Source: == F:\BlueRay\SHREK_FOREVER_AFTER\BDMV\STREAM\00010.m2ts

I can play this by exiting My Films, selecting videos, navigating to the same directory and selecting the 00010.m2ts file.

Questions: Should I specify something different for the BluRay files for My Films?
Do you need my log files, xml file or anything else?

Again, thanks for the plugin. Maybe someone else is having the same difficulty.

If we are all waiting on an upgrade to fix this problem please forgive me. I do not wish to bug you.

Thanks in advance for your help and guidance.

    Hi davidpmays,
iirc, what you describe should work, if you have proper codec setup and m2ts added to known video format extensions, it should play in myfilms - so if it doesn't, yes, please post logs and describe what error / message you get when you try.
May I point you also to wiki - supported media formats that gives a nice overview what media types and how they are supported.

    Regarding your question:
Instead of using direct link you can play folder content of a BR using the index file and the BDhandler plugin (this allows you to get textbased menu and select features of the BR) - unfortunately I just checked and have seen, that this requires a later fix in MyFilms:
Commit 1493: MyFilms: Fixed playback of BR-folders (index.bdmv) with BDHandler
Added check if BDHandler is installed and active
So using this requires next version of MyFilms plugin, which is still wip (you can of course have a test version if you like and are aware, that's it's not a release version, drop me a PM).

I have lots of Blu-Ray discs stored on my hard drive as ISO's , just like ordinary DVD's. My Films plays the DVD's fine but wont play the BRD iso's. I have MP set up to mount iso's with Virtual Drive and ArcsoftTMT set up to play them as external player in MP.

The DVD iso's launch OK but not the BRD iso's.

When using Moving Pictures everything works !

MoPi has it's own implementation for playback with external players - MyFilms uses MediaPortal's abilities.
IIRC, you need the BlurayPlayerLauncher in MP to achieve that.
I used that with ArcSoft Totalmedia 3 in the past, but changed to BDhanlder since some time.
So if that is what you mean "ArcsoftTMT set up to play them as external player in MP", it should work. Then please post logs, so I can have a look into it.

    Thanks Guzzi,

Been playing around with this again after a break and yes, Blu-Ray launcher (which I already have installed) will play the .iso's OK but it means coming out of MyFilms and then launching the other plugin. Not ideal!.

I'd not heard of the Bd-Handler plugin so have tried that but that just wont work for me either:mad: . I've posted in that plugins thread for but this is really setting hares running and when all I want to do is play the movies not spend a lifetime setting things up this solution isn't good either.

Maybe MyFilms could incorporate BD handling like Moving-Pictures does. It would make for a much improved user experience.

    AW: bluray

You mean playing the main file from the disc directly - or talking about "internally" supporting the use of external player? Both is actually imho a workaround - best "out-of-the-box" solution would be if MP's internal player supports BD - see here ...

Been playing around this morning having installed the BDhandler plugin and after I disabled moving-pictures option to use TMT for BD playback the BDHandler plugin worked.
Great news I thought - if it works in moving-pictures it should work in MyFilms. Not so.:mad: Trying to launch the exact same movie from MyFilms does nothing still -even though moving-pictures will launch it OK usng the BDHandler process plugin.
I must be missing something in setup but can't figure out what. The .iso is mounted OK but just wont play.
