Did you try using other codecs? The Leadtech codecs you mentioned in your template are not recommended. Try MPA/MPV (which come with MP) or maybe Cyberlink PowerDVD, Intervideo WinDVD or nVidia PureVideo.

In MP's configuration.exe / Television / Deinterlace mode... Set deinterlacing to None (if no result, set to BOB). Also set deinterlacing mode in your MPEG codec (depends) to BOB or SMART / VMR default.

I have tried all the codecs. The Leadtek is the only codec that gives me the correct aspect ratio, while the MPA/MPV codecs both squash the image in a funny way. Haven't tried the other codecs you mention. I have PowerCinema, so will give the cyberlink codec a go.

I have tried the different deinterlacing modes with no noticable difference in picture quality.

I'm stuck on using MP 0.2RC1 at the moment, since while this doesn't give as clear a picture as the Winfast software, it will suffice.

Sorry I am not sure what you mean in the explanation of why you are stuck with 0.2RC1 (what I get from the meaning is that you are stuck with it because... it will suffice - then again English is not my first language so I maybe wrong). So why you are stuck with it again?

:D

That's right - I am stuck with it since it seems to give me a better picture compared to 0.2.0.4 (possibly since I can use the Overlay renderer with 0.2RC1).

ah ok

but of course if you get better picture with overlay, you should look into what causes this and not just stop you going forward (because VMR9 is the future, MP or no MP)

I realise this also, except I have absolutely zero idea what the problem might be as this is my first foray into the wonderful world of HTPCs! Does my PC have enough grunt? VMR9 is more CPU intensive as I understand.

But your Graphics card should take that load easily.

I would still look at diferent codecs, ie nvidia purevideo, download trial to see if any difference.

Also codecs can be altered in MP setup bob, weave, best.

A bit trial and error, but hopefully you will find some setup that suits you.

I have also seen this problem with the MPV codec. I couldn't get it to give me the correct aspect ratio. Dscaler gave the correct aspect ratio but caused issues upon restart that I could never quite diagnose. So I installed PureVideo codecs and they have been working fine for me.

Well I reinstalled 0.2.0.4 and the PureVideo decoder and it looks great. When I use the other codecs I have all the same problems, but using the PureVideo decoder the picrture looks sharp (not as sharp as normal TV) and doesn't jerk/shadow with fast movement. Only thing I have nioticed is after wwatching TV for an hour or so the picture starts to stutter really badly (have to fix it my turnin the TV off/on in MyTV).
