I'm having similar troubles. Install didn't detect WMP11. I ran the installer as instructed and MP finished installing. Now when I try to launch it says WMP11 is required and I must install it. MP splash screen stays up and just says Information. I have to kill the process.

My first thought is that MP is looking for WMP in a specific location on C: but my primary drive is e:

Do you also have a different drive letter?

I'll try a different hard drive tomorrow and be sure to make it c:

What about installer ? Is it able to find WMP11 as installed ?

We don't look for a specific location but ask the system path, so doens't matter if C: of E:...

OK so it's not drive letter, but that was the only abnormality on my system I could think of. I just tried installing on a fresh XP SP3 install fully updated. Comes with 11.0.5. Installer did not find it and asked me to install. I did so (BTW, downloaded file from provided link ends with -enu but MP looks for a file without it. Obviously it was a simple file rename to make it work, but could be programmed into the installer correctly.) After some time it proceeds as if WMP has been installed, although no WMP setup screens ever appear and installation finishes. Configuration works fine, but any attempt to open MP gives error: "Please install Windows Media Player 11. MediaPortal cannot run without Windows Media Player 11" Pressing OK results in the splash screen staying up but no response from MP. Killing it in Processes is the only way to end it. Watchdog generates only empty log files.

Only things installed right now are FFDShow codecs, AVG Free, VLC, Firefox, Nero and WMP11.0.5705.5043. I've tried running with WMP open and closed.

Anybody know what processes should be running? Is something possibly disabled in services? What location does it expect WMP files to be in?

I ended up not using the installer and downloaded what I needed manually, then I restated the installer and went right to "install MP". It worked that way, all is good and I am up and running.

I've just installed the WMP package by itself. Still cannot launch MP, installer still doesn't recognize WMP.

Please check for wmp.dll. Post here path where you find it and the version.
If unsure, zip it and attach to your post.
