Hi john, with powersvheduler did you disable the original version under plugins? The client/server version will not work otherwise. I'm sorry i have no knowledge about floppy things! Cheers m

I am new to this scene, and I am just wondering for a few things.

1. Is it possible to use MediaPortal to control Sky NZ (Sorry if this has been said somewhere in the forums, I did search). Like with some special DVB-S card that you can put your sky CAM card in. Also if this is possible, how many channels can you watch at one time with sky?

2. Is it possible to have two LNB’s pointing at the sky satellite (D1 is it?) so that you are able to watch sky and Freeview at the same time with no problems since they are on horizontal and vertical things?

3. Will you need two (besides the sky DVB-S) DVB-S cards so then you are able to watch all the Freeview channels at the same time? Is this ever going to change over time, such as are there going to be more than two frequencies later on or is it going to stay like this?

4. Also is it possible to watch channel seven and SBS off the C1 satellite? I have done some searching and it says that it is encrypted, just wondering if this is correct.

That’s about all I have I think, thanks for your answers in advance, and I hope that these questions might be some that other people have and it helps them.

Hi there, and welcome.

1) My understanding is that sky can only be viewed via an official set top box, you can then send this output to an analogue card such as a hauppauge 150. The set top box can be controlled via MP and something like the MCE remote blasters, quite a few threads on the forums re this if you search.

2) Absolutely possible, you'll need a dual lnb holder which can be fairly easily made up if your a bit of a handyman http://mcraenz.googlepages.com/mppvr this guy seems particularly ingenious.

3) Currently 2 cards covers all the freeview channels , i have 2 Skystar 2's running alongside each other feeding from the one LNB via a splitter. Don't know about future extra transponders but you'd need to be a fairly big TV addict to have 3 different shows on 3 different transponders all at the same time which you'd like to record, so i reckon 2 cards will always give me enough flexibility.

4) http://www.lyngsat.com/optusc1.html doesnt actually show sbs or seven but might they be "foxtel". I'm not much use on this one i'm afraid.

Yea I was looking at http://www.freeviewshop.co.nz/channels.html but it looks like it is foxtel due to that other site.

Sadly no. I wish. I might even consider getting sky if you could do that. But unfortunately there is no CAM that will support SKY in NZ I think they may have got this working with in the UK but they have a different system.

The only(and still very popular) way to get sky (or any other Set-Top-Box output) into mediaportal is to use an analog MPEG encoder card and run the s-video and audio output from the sky decoder into it. Then use an infra-red blaster to change the channels on the sky box.

I don't think so; I think you can only have 1 LNB per satellite on the same dish, since they have to be in the exact same place.

And since sky and freeview is on horizontal and sky is on vertical it will cause a problem however I think around the end of July sky will switch to Horizontal. At this point you can use 1 LNB and splitter to split the signal into your DVB-S card and into your sky decoder.

You won't need any DVB-S card for sky as mentioned above you'll need an analog card. And yes as far as I know Freeview only has 2 transponders at the moment so putting in 2 DVB-S card will allow you to watch/record all channels at once. (Provided you use MediaPortal TV Server )

There is a transponder on C1 that fires SBS and Seven into NZ but you would need a DVB-S card with a cam slot and a CAM and a valid optus auroa card to decrypt it.

I have been destroying a weekend to get the better of MediaPortal utilising a DVB-S tuner card which has a CAM slot which then takes a CI card. The card is FloppyDVT S/CI MCE from digital-everywhere.com, one of those supported by MediaPortal. For MediaPortal, I discovered on and downloaded from the digital-everywhere.com site that it uses a BDA driver 3.1 (not 3.2 which is used with MCE). Anyway I finally made it work and work well. It was realy simple in the end but I could find no useful single instruction anywhere and I am still waiting for various responses from the forums for the board. It won't matter now of course.

The hard part was to discover by reading about other card setups that I needed to set the DiSEqC switch settings as per the following for 4 LNB's:

LNB#1 Level 1 A/A
LNB#2 Level 1 B/A
LNB#3 Level 1 A/B
LNB#4 Level 1 B/B

I have 11300 MHz LNB's and whether it is right or wrong or not logical, I have made the following settings to make my card scan properly:

LNB0 11300
Switch 12700
LNB1 11300

Anyway, I wanted the CAM slot so that I could put in my Irdeto CAM (like a PCMCIA card) then plug in my card for various encrypted channels. Works like a charm.

To confirm, there is absolutely no method to get Sky TV into your computer without a SKY Digital TV subscription and Set Top Box. You can use AV outputs into AV inputs on the analog tuner card. Currently I have a Sky UHF decoder with its AV output plugged into AV inputs on one of my Hauppauge 150 MCE cards.

Still not having success with PowerScheduler even though I have just switched to MediaPortal 0.2.3.0 RC1 which has just been released! It looks very good so far. Read about it on the team-mediaportal .com Home page. I have had success with Comskip to remove commercials when watching recorded programs and pressing skip on the remote when the commercials start. It would be great to have the commercials automatically skipped when watching like with DVRMSToolbox with MCE (which incorporates Comskip and ShowAnalyzer).

awesome, i will try this as well. My one works TOO well on prime, like im watching topgear and comskip as trimmed like most of the show out! not only the adds but most of the show, so gutted!!!!
