Does anyone have Comskip and Comclean (to remove the commercials and create a new file using the Comskip generated files and the same name without the commercials) working in MediaPortal 0.2.3 Rec1 or MediaPortal TV Server? Any helpful guides on how to do it? I believe a batch file is required which kicks of Comskip then Comclean batch file which calls another application to do its thing.

Hey just thought i'd drop by in here since you're calling all of us.

I'm brand new to media pc's and untill i get an analogue card, or a sattelite dish i don't think i'll be able to do much yet.

Haven't gone through the whole thread yet, but i was wondering if someone would care to update the wiki, and link to it in the first post.

could anyone please tell me if a sky sattelite dish will give me the DVB-S signal i need for freeview, if not are there any companies that will install a dish for me, as i'm not as clued up as mcraenz about checking sattelite reception.

The answer is Yes but like all of us you will need to be prepared to do a lot of study, reading, testing, etc, to get to any result you are looking for. You can connect your DVB-S card direct to the dish LNB if you are not using Sky also or you put in a splitter (F connector type as shown on the mcraenz site but in this case the Sky box is one output and the DVB-S card is the other output).

wow fast reply thanks.

I wouldn't expect to be able to get a good media box up and running without a bunch of research (besides researching is half the fun) knowing my sky dish will work should make this much easier though, only got the hauppage yesterday, looks like i'm in for some fun playing today tuning and testing.

hoping to get tvserver and channels up and running by this arvo.

Best of luck Omen, if you've already got this dish then you've half way there, well maybe 1/3rd :).

Regarding comskip guys... why do you want to remove the adds from the mpeg file? is it for movies you plan to keep long term? If it's just for TV then you may as well just use comskip to mark where the ads are then you can skip them with mediaportal using the next track button in the remote. This way if comskip gets it wrong then you haven't actually lost anything.

Hi Rhys, i was thinking the same thing re comskip, i use the skip button rather than actually deleting the ads, that way if comskip makes a rare mistake you dont actually lose any of the recordings. Also less cpu intensive and can be done in real time. Out of interest how is that ini working for you? I found the later versions of comskip didnt work so well so have stuck with the older version that i mentioned. Using the "if it aint broke" ethos, which is a rare event for me!!

Cheers

I was able to get Comskip to work. I neglected to read what was in front of me when setting up the Comskip.exe location in MediaPortal 0.2.3 Rec1. I have also run it in MediaPortal TV Server successfully. I am using MediaPortal 0.2.3 Rec1 now just to give myself less hassle for awhile.

When I used MCE, I used DVRMSToolbox which included Comskip and ShowAnalyzer in its weapons. With MCE it automatically skipped while you were watching the recorded show but the file original remained in tact. What we need is for some smart person to add this feature to MediaPortal.

Hi john, thats a good idea i like the thought that via the configuration i could select "use comskip file if it exists" (except it would be much better grammatically than that!) and then enable automatic skipping.

I haven't checked the improvement suggestions forum but if this isnt there then it is certainly worth adding.

Cheers

Yeah I was gonna mention, I've had problems, what version are you running (I'm running latest, havn't tried any other)? I find I can't rely on it even with your ini. sometimes it works other time it skips the ad and the next tv segment so you think you skipped the ad perfectly then you find out a few seconds later who won or got fired! So yeah I'd be keen to know what your exact setup is. Also what cahnnels does it work on for you? all or are some better than others.
Cheers,
Rhys
