Hi Rhys, try copying the comskip.ini file i posted to your windows\system32 folder as well as your comskip folder, i remember that this helped on a setup i had ages ago. Also below is my comskip.exe file, i've renamed it to .txt to allow it to be uploaded. just rename it and replace your current comskip.exe with it as this setup works fine for me on all channels (off my skystar 2 of course!!)

cheers

New User says G'day

Hi All,

Finally getting around to building a media PC using Media Portal.

Been playing around with XMLTVNZ and had to set my system date to american formatting (Month/Day/Year) to get MediaPOrtal TV to accept the listing or I would get an invalid XML date parameters error.

Using an old COol Command remtoe control from a Leadtek TV capture card adn works well under the new plugin!

Almost up to WAF stage 1.......

Thanks Mds, I'll let you know how I get on, Can I just ask though how well comskip is working for you? can you really rely on it like just skip the ads and it works? What would you say is the fail rate is 1 out of ten times? or better.

Ramjet99 are you running tv server?

Hi Rhys, indeed i would estimate it works about 95% of the time, the failures tend to mean that it skips short, i.e. comskip has been "fooled" that the ad break is over when in fact it isn't. This of course is hardly major and is resolved by jumping through the ads as normal with the arrow keys.

Cheers

Hi Rhys,

No, just the latest RC. Once date set to American I get all channel info. Does the tv server change this in some way?

Love the product and choosing hardware for my HTPC.

Thinkng Gigabyte GA-MA69G-S3H for mobo and 2 GB RAM with a 4800 CPU

Case and power supply harder, likely Silverstone LC17 or LC16M.

    Hi everyone

    Just wondering re: LNB selection and the different LO Freq.

    Currently there appears to be 2 main choices:
    * 11300 LO
    * 10750 LO

    Currently both will get a signal from the new D1, but from what I understand the new D2 (which appears to be now going to be D3 in 2009) will only be able to be viewed through a 10750?

    Is it correct that if you have a long run of Rg6 cable, the 11300 will be better?

    Was looking at a dish that had a 11300 LNB, but then started thinking about compatability going forward.

    Are there other pro/cons for each respective LNB?

    I think this whole area of commercials skipping requires a focus from someone who is a bit of a software gun and who knows the structure of how these things are are added into the plugs section of MediaPortal. The are known solutions and the best one I have ever used was with MCE which incorporated Comskip and ShowAnalyzer. It was as mentioned before called DVRMSToolbox. The dedicated web site to start reading about it is http://babgvant.com/default.aspx
    and it does say somewhere on it that it can work with MediaPortal but no automatic skipping while watching. It also says that ShowAnalyzer is more reliable than Comskip.

    Hey guys,

    Another Kiwi, I am in whakatane and I have had a Windows MCE running for over a year now, VMC running for about 6 weeks but I have decided to take a run at Media Portal and see how it works.

    Good to see that there is a few of us working with this software, I would love any localised files that you guys have, (I read the first coupla pages and then saw these was 30 odd and skipped to the end) particularly tv icons etc.

    I am currently setting this up with a 500 analogue and a nova-s digital but hope to go to two digitals, ditch the analogue and just go with freeview.

    Has anyone done this already? Going well? able to schedule recordings etc off the freeview epg?

    Cheers guys, look forward to any replies and joining in with the community

    kia kaha

    Hi Captcol, welcome. I have 2 x skystar 2's running with no problems. Able to record multiple channels at the same time via the epg (data derived from the dvb-s stream) and channels off of different transponders e.g. tv3 and tv1. Mediaportal is definitely the best as far as i can see.

    Cheers
