i think that it might be a good idea to restructure it.

Well the HTPC is now built and I am ready to extend MP to control an external MY SKY decoder. The MySKY is odd in that to ask it to select channel 10 you have to send "010" to the box. Looking through the TVE3 channel properties, I cannot see how you instruct TVE3 to send a specific string format to the IR blaster (USBUIRT in my case). Entering 010 in the Channel number field just resolves to an integer and gets set to "10".

Has anyone setup TVE3 to drive an external STB? If so, how and where do you setup the IR instructions to send to the STB.

Quick Questions

Hi all, new to mediaPortal and have a quick question.

Current setup involves 75cm dish ( which is actually eliptical as it is 80cm in one dimension), skystar 2 card and TV server running with media portal client on a single box. All in all everything works well, plently of little tweaks to be done as I havent had it up and running all that long ( weather pics, rss feeds etc ).

My two questions are as follows and apologies if they have been answered before, I did use the search function but I just couldnt bring myself to wade through the morass of results returned when nothing obvious jumped out.

1. I get approximately 60-65% signal quality on TV2 , transponder 12456 but I get between 45-50% on Tv3 transponder 12483. TV 2 @ 60% seems to be ok not choppy but TV3 can be occasionally choppy and the audio stutters. This is especially bad on the new stratos channel.

Is this normal, can I improve on this. This on a blue sky day and with rain it can get lower. I have played with the dish alignment and this appears to be as good as it gets.

I'm in auckland and there doesnt appear to be any obstruction. Although I am on one side of a valley and am hoping that the satellite is above the opposite crest, certainly the dish appears to be pointing high enough to miss it.

2. can the skystar 2 remote be configured with mediaplayer.

My first impression is that you can do better than that. How did you maximise the signal at the LNB? ie, how did you get the right dish angles? I work with a similar dish and the signals are very strong. I am in eastern suburbs of Auckland. I presume you can see the signal meter while you are adjusting the dish. I know nothing about the skystar2 card. I have an internal card and also a generic set top box. I can have a mirror in front of my TV and with my dish on an outside wall where I can adjust it while looking through the window at the mirror to get maximum signal strength and quality.

I used a compass for direction and adjusted the LNB as directed by the shop where I bought it. For elevation I didnt have an inclinometer so I had to use the eye-ometer matching teo the neighbours dish . But that was just to get a basic signal. If i move the dish more than a few degrees in either elevation or direction the signal degrades drastically so I assumed I had it aligned in the center.

To refine the alignment I moved it left until the signal dropped off then back to the right until it started dropping off. My assumption was that at the point just before it drops off after moving it right to the is the correct alignment. I repeated the exercise except using up and down for elevation.

Could I have made a basic error with the LNB, or aligned with reflection???? At this point I'm over my head.

I can't see the signal meter from the dish but had my partner intercommed on the telephone while see watched it, so as good as. I have used good quality cable and have a signal booster about 1 meter from the dish as the cable run is about 15-20 meters.

I just noticed that you mention your signal is very strong , I get 75% + signal strength but the quality is as above.
