Hey, hope you guys can help.

I have 2 problems at the moment.

1/ My scan all works and HAS worked but I have no picture when on tv.

2/ managed to get tv2 tv guide data but that was all , then I tried and tried again to get the others and ended up with nothing and problem 1!!

a note is that I had problem 1 when i first ran mediaportal, and don't know how i fixed it. I have uninstalled mediaportal and reinstalled 2 2 3. no difference, i note that the configuration is still the same even after reinstalling!?

Do I need the TV server part of media portal?

I have installed Mediaportal 2.2.3.
I also have the Hauppage wintv etc installed (can't get them working so haven't used em)
I have a Hauppage wintv digital satellite card.

What software should I be running, what info do you want from me to help you guys help me!!

I appreciate your time and help as I may be asking already asked questions.

Okay for 1.

is it dvb-s or analogue, do you have sound? are you using just the mediaportal client or tv server and client.

first up I would check what codecs you are using for tv.

2. what are you currently using to get epg?

Okay editing here: apparently i posted between your edit

so using dvb-s the epg data is streamed with the tv signal, so if you are not getting one, you will not be getting the other. I would check the lnb settings as the dish and everything will be in the same place

As for the TV server, no you do not need it but it adds some nice features.

The fact that you can not get wintv working as well suggests to me a signal issue, which if nothing else has changed will be a lnb setting. As I haven't used dvb-s for abit as I have moved house and no longer have a dish i will leave one of the other guys to post a screenie of what these settings should be

Thanks for the reply,
I was using xmltvnz to download the data, I believe that the epg data is not available on freeview in NZ? and then going into configuration and trying to upload the xml file. Got it kind of working but only on tv2 so i deleted the channels in configuration and retried. and thats were i am today.

I had mediaportal working and never had wintv working, i guess i was able to work out mediaportal.

But I want to start from afresh. So i can understand what to do if i have to ever start over again. So imagine i'm just installing for the first time.

It could be the lnb thats mucking me around. that would explain things somewhat.

The CODECS i'm using i'm not fully sure, how do i find this exact info. I haven't changed anything since it was working previously. but ya never know what files get mucked around with.

Yeah it sounds like an LNB issue to me. I'd recommend using TV Server too. Check out my pages (linke below) and see if it helps.

If you are using freeviwe, you no longer need to worry about xml, you only need that for analogue signals, once you have scanned the channels the epg will appear in mediaportal shortly after you have started to view tv the first time.

I would say it is the three settings for lnb that are screwing you at the moment there is from memory a low frequency a high frequency and a switching frequency, if you have reinstalled these will not be set and will need to be sorted.

It depends on how old your dish is as to exactly what these settings should be.

    computerlounge

If anyone is thinking of visiting the computerlounge in auckland, who call themselves HTPC specialists, I have been there twice and on both occasions found them to be unfriendly and unhelpful with overpriced gear. My friend also went there a while ago with PC troubles. They kept his PC for five days and then told him the whole thing was stuffed and he needed a new one. In the end it turned out to be a graphics driver conflict, easily fixed! He didnt even think they looked at it. So on my advice and experience anyway, dont go there! QMB and PBTech I have found to be very friendly, and helpful with competitive prices. Go the Chinese computer shops!

I think from memory we had a discussion about lnb settings back in the late 40's of this thread, I will try to have a look shortly, or maybe 30's sigh.

    Edit:

found it around 35/36 somewhere, try these lnb settings

tick the overide button on the first tab of your tuner card.

    enter the above figures in
LOF1 11300 - this one maybe 10750 depending on the age of the lnb
    LOF2 22000
    switch 0

Give that a go and see what happens

    hey guys

Well, this is what I did.

    I uninstalled Media Portal
    Re installed Media Portal
Installed Net framework 2.0 (repair install as I already had it installed)
    ran the latest snapshot
ran config, checked settings at LOF0 LOF1 11300, swith 0
    ran mediaportal
ran SWEET!, and the program guides have come up!!

So all I have followed was what was already up on the mediaportal site regarding installing. So thats great that it works now, and I have tv guide all working.
