the only thing here that i haven't tried is that I have somehow mixed up my LNB at 11300 when it should be 10750.
Seems likely ;-)
Fingers crossed this is it. Came to me in a flash of inspiration, when i was thinking what is the densest mistake I could of made?

Should the SS2 cards appear as a network adaptor or video device in the hardware manager?
WDM=Network Adapter
BDA=Audio/Video Device
If they both show as video devices then that's good

Hmm I did so many restores backwards and forwards I'll have to check what they currently are. I now have a restore point with both running BDA and a restore point both running WDM.

Not sure how wise it is relying on windows to keep everything "straight" using restore points but so far so good

I have also rolled back drivers so that I can use setup4TV.exe, which shows two satellite icons in the task bar now.
have them as video adaptors.
These 2 situations are mutually exclusive.

Yep definately will need to check this, probably me getting confused.

Unfortunately I am now getting no signal into the computer
Showing where? In MediaPortal (No signal! when scanning)? Or in Setup4PC? Your devices show under multimedia, video, audio device which means you're running BDA which means you can forget about setup4PC and you should uninstall it and any other technisat software.

In setup4PC, see point above

Watch out for the deadly crash in WAF!

WAF???

Oh and PS thanks for all your help. :)

@Phatbloke: btw what rev of TVE3 are you running?
I was initially trying to use mediaportal with no TV-Server but was having trouble tuning. I read a post about the updated tuning code and the issues. So from that post I found I installed an old version Rev16534 of TV-Server. It tuned fine (analogue was fine but DVB-T only got C4 and TV3 so not sure if more channels are running in Chch)

Once tuned I had trouble getting it to run in mediaportal so I though I would try update to Rev17368 (10 Feb) both the server and client. It then ran fine (well bar the DVB-T issue) and since the channels were already tuned I didn't have a problem. I actually haven't tried to tune the channels with the new version of the server so it might actually work.

I'm experiening the same, MediaPortal on its own won't pick up the channels on DVB-T however last nights TVEngine build does - But I can't play them via MediaPortal through TVEngine.

What I don't get is if the TVEngine can find the channels, how come MediaPortal can't? I've tried the latest SVN build also with no luck. I have played around with dvbt.xml and added the right values (also tried the dvbt.xml file in this thread).

All works well with DVBViewer, even have the HE-AAC audio decoding now.. but would love to be using MediaPortal instead

So now I feel stupid. This was indeed the problem.

All working fine now, although my SVN releases has the whats on now page broken otherwise all fine. I have both cards with BDA drivers and can record and watch multiple channels no problem.

The setup for some reason thinks it is multi seat rather than single seat and asked for the server IP. Thats no big deal as it will be setup in the office and bedroom shortly, so good to know it works this way. Probably some funky firewall issue.

My install to get this going went as follows.

Fresh install of windows XP2.
Installed required drivers for other peripherals except SkyStar2 Cards.
Installed Service Pack 2
Installed Microsoft update 896626 which can be found here >Windows Update 896626
Applied all microsoft updates ( all 92 of them )
Installed standard drivers for both cards using SkyStar2 CD ROM
This also installed setup4TV app
Used setup4TV app to check signal
Installed Technisat BDA drivers for both cards
Installed SQL server 2005, configuring password etc
Installed Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition configuring surface area etc as per manual
Installed SVN 17345 TV Server
Configured TV Server, channels etc
Installed media portal SVN 17345
Intalled TV server media portal plugin
Configured Media portal and run.

Success :D

Nice One! Glad to hear it's all working.

Do you mean the miniguide? The one you get when you press "enter"/"OK" when you're in full screen TV?
Repair your dotNet FrameWork 2.0 in Add/Remove Programs to fix this. :)

Yep thats the one, although I double click quickly with left mouse button to bring it up. Is this the same if I have installed .Net 3.0

I think you must have .Net 1.1, 2.0[sp1] and 3.0 all installed; run the repair on 2.0. I spent some hours trouble shooting to find this since I use the minguide all the time!

    dumb n00b question

Hello, I want simply to take my SKY signal that comes out of my SKY decoder and run it through my PC, where I can record the channel and project it. I have the ability to do this with the Winfast TV deluxe I already have utilising the Winfast software, but Media Portal does not like this as it's a software encoding card.

I therefore would like a recommendation as to a good card to get that will:

    1) be available in New Zealand
    2) Will let me pass through my SKY signal
    3) Will be able to utilise the upcoming freeview MPEG4 signal when it goes terrestial
    4) And this is the tricky bit....will be able to let me take the incoming analogue signal and output it through SPDIF (I realise this maybe a limitation of the sound card but there may be a digital outputting card someone is aware of)

I'm not really interested in multi tuner cards unless there a compelling reason to go that way and already have an iMon module with a remote control that works just fine with media portal. So many cards have been discussed in the forums now I'm a bit lost as to what is _now_ a good choice, probably a Hauppage model?

:sorry: if this is a thread hijack or an RTFM query but my WAF budget is too lean to allow any contingency for a bad choice!
