To support analog (Hardware Encoding) you could get a hauppauge PVR-150MCE. But this will not help you with MPEG4 DVB-T because that digital. You can add a DVB-T card later.

Regarding SPDIF out. No problem at all if you use a hardware encoding card the audio is digital. i.e. analog a/v goes in to the card and the MPEG2 video comes out. simple! :) It's all done on the card. As long as you have a sound card with SPDFI output.

I have been using the older version of tv server for a week or so now and am finding it very good at recording shows and programming them, but for watching live tv it is not much use, channels take ages to change and often refuse to change at all. Heres hoping a newer version will allow me to tune in the channels so i can use a less buggy version.

On another note i have managed to tune in the dvb-t auckland trials channels but as i understand it you can't watch them in mediaportal currently, what is the best way to view these channels (i heard mention of timeshifting them then viewing the stream in vlc). And when is it likely that mediaportal will be able to show these channels? before the official launch?
I am interested as it suggests here that tv2 is now showing normal programming in 720p in these trials

i have tryed auckland dvb-t trials, but vlc wont play them :( it plays the first frame or to and then freezes and crashes, the last time i tuned tv1 and 2 in dvb-t they where playing a "sony loop", like you see in tv stores,
any reason y vlc is crashing has anyone had anymore luck :)

to that guy who whats to get sky, if you get a hauppage 4000 card you can use it for dvb-t and dvb-s not anoluge but you can scan for the sky channels on dvb-s and get the epg from that for ur sky channels :), and then use dvb-t for hd :), but you would also need to get a 150 card for sky,

edit: although vlc is still crashing (help please) tv 1 and 2 appear to be broadcasting live tv!

    Hi

I've been a long time user of MediaPortal in South-Africa, but am in the process of moving to New Zealand because of the infrastructural collapse and the high number of criminal activity in South Africa. I'm also expecting my first child and dont want to raise "her" in a country where 60% of all women have been raped :( Would you guys accept a Springbok (rugby) supporter as a fellow MediaPortal user...or can I expect some name-calling? :D

Anyway, I have read through all the comments and see that there are quite a few MediaPortal users in New Zealand. Are there any recommendations regarding which TV broadcaster to use in your country, or do you only have sky?

    Many Regards

In Auckland Currently I get (using DVBViewer)

    TV1 - Live 720p upscaled WS
    TV2 - Live 720p upscaled WS
    TV3 - CSI/Numb3rs 1080i Loop WS
C4 - Live 576i SD (swaps between WS and FS during their tests - also out of sync last I saw)

    + Parliament TV, TVNZ Sports, TVNZ6 & 7

I am suffering the same problem, TVServer will find the channels and will display first frame thats it, MediaPortal Standalone wont find channels at all (AFAIK they have some sort of hidden flag turned on at the moment)

    Welcome to NZ GeoV

For satellite coverage you can choose with Sky (basically pay monthly service) or Freeview (free to air but you have to pay for setup costs).

Depending on where you settle you may have the terrestrial version of Freeview (most of the cities).

Parts of Wellington, Christchurch and Auckland have access to cable via Telstra Saturn (are they still operating under that name?) so you may have more of a choice depending on where you end up.

What type of service are you getting at present in Sth Africa?

Welcome Geov! What part of NZ do you plan to settle in?

For satellite coverage you can choose with Sky (basically pay monthly service)
Bare in mind though that you can only use this in mediaportal via analog card and ir blaster there is no CAM for NDS :(

    handya:
I'm sure we'll be able to get DVB-T working in TVE3 sooner or later. Might just take some time for the devs to be able to look at it.

handya: If you want to see the DVB-T channels in mediaportal do the following:

Start MP in non full screen mode. Start a channel timeshifting you'll get the frozen frame, go into graphedit and conect to the remote graph and you'll see the .ts being piped in to CoreAVC for video and MPA for audio. delete the MPA filter from the graph and hit play on the top bar of graphedit the picture should now start playing in mediaportal of course with no audio. It might take a couple of tries; if it doesn't work then try stopping the channel and restarting it and re-connecting to the graph. The problem is with the AAC audio used. The same problem exists for users of DVB-T in Norway. Now I need a PC that can handle 720p:(

I take it from these posts that we're currently out of luck with Freeview DVB-T on MP until the HE-AAC issue is resolved?
BTW, I was thinking of moving from TVE2 to TVE3 to coincide with DVB-T, however there seems to be some issues with reliability at the mo. As WAF is critical to my health ;) , does anyone have recommended SVN's that work relatively trouble free? (running 2 x 150mce)
    Thanks
