My question is similar to what Datagrafx asked: I've just upgraded to a 50inch 1080p HD plasma (yeah!! ) but I'm only using a GeForce 6600 TD graphics card which outputs 720p graphics. I've got 2xDVB-S tuners and I'm in no hurry to upgrade to DVB-T at the moment since I might not be able to get the signal (plus I don't see the point yet..) but should I upgrade my video card? will it make a difference because the picture is mint anyway (currently using component leads) - should I change to a video card that upscales the picture to 1080p (is there even such a thing??) or should I just get a DVI-HDMI cable and stick with the card I've got to avoid any potential BSOD episodes... etc etc

I was having a fair few issues too with PowerDVD and tried ffdshow tryouts as a test and is working great. Only get about 16% CPU as well on a 2.3MHz core duo with 8500GT and I thought it would be way worse as not meant to be using the onboard decoder. Cant explain it but cant complain

I was having a fair few issues too with PowerDVD and tried ffdshow tryouts as a test and is working great. Only get about 16% CPU as well on a 2.3MHz core duo with 8500GT and I thought it would be way worse as not meant to be using the onboard decoder. Cant explain it but cant complain

Which build of ffdshow tryouts are you using?

Which build of ffdshow tryouts are you using?

There are nightl builds that are meant to be good as well but the above ahs been good for me

hvr 3000's are a fairly solid dvb-t card i'd recommend one.

and yeah the uhf aerial from the roof is all the antenna you should need for dvb-t provided you live within range of the broadcast (i'm using bunny ears in my room and they work great so an old roof antenna should be fine)

Bleazle i would recomend upgrading to dvi to hdmi and 1080p video output, and get DVB-T its fantastic! gotta love CSI in 1080i

Thanks for answering. This is where I got to last night, would appreciate if anyone can let me know what else I need to download 'cause im stuck with ridiculously slow T3G at home, and would rather download big things while I'm at work today.

I just grabbed PowerDVD 8 (CyberLink PowerDVD Deluxe v8.0.1531) for codecs.

- TV Server scanned and picked up all the channels

- If I use the manual control in TV Server config to start timeshifting, the file appears in the directory and I can open with VLC - however, there is NO SOUND. I tried registering the monowhatever aac on both the server and the laptop I was running VLC on but it had no effect.

- Some .ts files seem to crash VLC after the first few frames - I assume this could also be codec related?

- If i go into MP on either the server or a seperate client, and try and turn the tv on, it flashes once then does nothing, and the tv does not go on. however if i then go into 'tv streams' it IS listed there, and appears to be dumping the ts file as normal - codec related too?

Btw I ended up with a HVR 3000 from pbwellington...

The card it self is not high or low def, The just receives data, like a network card does. In fact some DVB card install under network devices. It is the data or the video stream that is hi or low def.
