I am planning on purchasing the CoreAVC H.264 codec.

Um I don't think CoreAVC supports hardware acceleration. If you want to have painless Freeview|Hd then you really need to get hardware acceleration working, regardless of how powerful your CPU is or how good your software codec is.

Decoding 720p .mkv TV shows off the net and decoding high bitrate HD TV are 2 different things; I can't stress enough you really don't want to be doing this stuff with software!

I think the cyberlink codec really is the best option.

Let me ask again, does anyone else use the commercial skipping option (where comskip files are present) and do you notice that the v1.0.0 RC1 version does not seem to skip the commercials any longer - or it it just my setup.

I will definitely use it when I get my rig back up & running. That will happen sooner than thought. I'm a happy camper, again. The PC store got more CPUs from another source. A big thanks to Richard @ Playtech: his service has been brilliant . I may even be able to get it working -or not- tonight, but not holding my breath. Will post back results soon as.

Ok - looks like the devs have removed the auto commercial skip feature from TV Server when comskip files are present and a recording is selected from the TV "section" of MP. I know this option worked fine before the v1.0.0 RC1 release but its not present when watching TV Recordings from the TV section in the latest release (or the subsequent SVN), but it is present when watching TV Recordings from the Video section (ie via a shared folder).

That's a real pity - commercial skipping is surely one of the main useability points - right? Why take something out that actually works just fine?

Update: Just recalled that previously I was using MP with TV Server on the same machine and it was that configuration in which comskip worked in TV recordings. I now use a client to watch TV recordings and it may never have worked in clients.

1gkar - I have had great success with CoreAVC and for $14.95 is a good investment. In fact, two of my TV Clients have nothing else other than MP, CoreAVC and xVid (one on Vista SP1 and the other XP SP2) and I have no trouble watching DVB-T, DVB-S or AVI's. However, I do not run DVB-T at more than 720p so it will be a different story at 1080i as mcraenz indicated.

Ah cool, well if you're gonna go with it will be interesting to see how it goes, certainly cost effective.

*Edit* Hmmmm looking a little closer in the fine print there website says

* GPU Support planned to be added at a later date.

Mike I think you're right, comskip relies on files that are stored locally whereas network clients use RTP streaming

H.264 decoding

Hi, sorry if this has been covered but I can't seem to find the answer searching the forums.

I have Nivida Purevideo installed which I understand is supposed to enable hardware decoding of H.264 on my Nvidia 8800GTS card.

I've set all of the video options in MP to Nvidia but there is no Nvidia option under H.264. Does anyone know how to configure this?

I selected this card because it was H.264 capable not realising that I had to pay extra for the Purevideo package. Now I've got it I'd like to make it work.

I thought the PureVideo decoder was only an MPEG2 decoder. I think you really need the cyberlink PowerDVD ultra decoder

I have comskip working on Prime (analog) but have yet to get it working on any DVB-T streams. This is with RC1 + the latest SVN..
