According to the CoreAVC site their professional edition has GPU support, which I assume is the same as hardware acceleration?

Ah cool, well if you're gonna go with it will be interesting to see how it goes, certainly cost effective.

Mike I think you're right, comskip relies on files that are stored locally whereas network clients use RTP streaming

Update on my poxy AMD PC issues. Here's what I've tried so far:

-replaced video card
-tried another PSU
-replaced mobo
-replaced CPU

When I installed the AMD AM2 3000+ CPU from my client machine it works great. The only thing left is the RAM. Will try using different slots but can't see what difference that should make.

Anyone have similar issues out there?????? Or ANY suggestions??????

I can't be the only one. At this stage it seems there must be a conflict between the CPU architecture & possibly the chipset drivers but have used the Gigabyte default, & latest ones. Will try Nvidia generic ones. But I can't be alone.

If I don't get this sorted by the weekend I'll be taking the CPU & mobo back & upgrading to Intel. I'll never touch AMD again!

Askelon: You will not be successful getting comskip to work with NZ DVB-T due to the h264 encoding being used. Comskip does not handle h264 that I am aware of. Hopefully one day it will...

Best work-around would be to manually setup you're skip steps to approximate the ad breaks' durations. I'll be doing that when I get my hardware issues sorted.

ie. I used about 210 seconds, on TV3, when watching recorded TV inside Zoomplayer. But knowing TV corporates, they will have different time lengths for different channels. Just trial for the various channels.

In fact, that could be a good idea: post you're skip step times for the various cahnnels. Hopefully, I'll be able to assist in this area soon. -Maybe in a separate thread so it's easy to find.

4 mins seems to work for me on TV1,2 and 3 with less on Prime. Certainly on TV3, 4 mins seems spot on. For the others 3.5 to 4 mins is about right.

I don't like to use more than 3:30sec on my skip of ads, the last 30sec seems to be either a small advert or the usual program advert they have before the show starts and they can last anywhere from 10-30sec

PHansen: How do you get 3:30sec? I thought we had to enter the number of seconds but in whole minute lots i.e. 60, 120, 180 etc. but 210 generates an error in the data entry field.

My apologies, i didn't really make it clear, i do a 3 minute skip, and then a 30second one. 30sec is my smallest skip step. It's faster for me to do that than it is to do a 4min and then skip smaller steps back until it gets to the right place.

I'd be interested though if we did some sort of average ad break length data table for each channel over the course of a day to see the differences.

OK well I can give you the figures for TV1 tonight between 7:30pm and 8:30pm there were three ad breaks in that hour and each was exactly 3m50sec long (interestingly).

The simple was is to just record a program and then open it with VideoReDo and check the timecode at the beginning and end of the ad break.

So for TV1 a 4min skip and back 15secs just about does it.

Ok guys, finally got around to building a DVB-T rig. Intel DP35DP Mobo, E8400 CPU, Gigabyte Silentpipe 8600GT.
HVR-2200 DVB-T card
So I built it up with vista and MediaPortal RC1 and started testing. got PowerDVD8 ultra for the h.264 decoder. enabled EVR, It was late at night so haven't done too much testing but I disappointed to see the that even with hardware decoding enabled I was gets lots artefacts in the video, unreliable channel changes, audio out of sync. Maybe my expectations were too high? Is the general consensus that DVB-T is working reliably with MediaPortal?

GIGABYTE EX38T-DQ6 Board, 2Gb Corsair DDR3-1333, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4G, Gigabyte 8800GT, PowerDVD8, AAC Audio installed. MediaPortal RC1 Server and Client on same machine.

Hauppage WinTV-HVR4000 connected to new UHF aerial. This card is also connected to the Sat Dish but not scanned for Sat channels at this stage.

Hauppage WinTV-PVR-350 connected to the MySky decoder and my DVD/HDD Recorder

All seems to be running fine for me. Records and plays back fine.
