Can I be cheeky and ask with components you used?, my biggest fear is buying all the stuff and not being able to fit it all in.
<snip>
I've been googling around for ages and thats the best mobo I can find, ideally I wanted sata2 onboard, does anyone know of a mATX which does that.?

See my sig :) I spent a lot of time trying to find a mATX motherboard which included PCI-E, on-board SATA, SPDIF audio and IEEE1394.. and found it in the GigaByte 8I915GM-F. I couldn't find *any* motherboards for AMD CPUs with a mATX form factor and all the features I wanted. The GigaByte was about the only one available. Not terribly expensive, either.

Whats the PSU noise like with all that kit in it - is it noticeable for a system under the TV?
Also what P4 heatsink/fan did you use for quietness?

Of the three fan exhausts in the machine, the PSU is easily the hottest which tells me I'm probably pushing it about as far as I should :) As for fan noise, I barely even notice it, but then I have the machine behind a glass door in the cabinet under my TV (the cabinet is open-backed, which means it doesn't overheat). Besides, my living room isn't ever the quietest of places, what with kids, dogs and cats and all ;)

I'm almost ashamed to say I didn't replace the stock fan/heatsink that came with the P4. It's a huge circular thing with more fins than Finland, so I figured it would probably do the job just fine. And it does, too.. like I said above, I've yet to see CPU temps above about 42deg C. The CPU fan usually runs slower than max -- it speeds up during POST at which point I can *just* hear it.

HTH!

Can anyone reccommend any other good resellers because www.scan.co.uk don't stock the PCI Express riser.

It took me hours to find an online vendor who stocked the PCI-E riser, and who would ship to Australia. In the end it came down to someone in The Netherlands whose page was completely in Dutch (and I don't speak or read Dutch :)) or FrozenCPU in the US. I got mine from them -- http://frozencpu.com/. Shipping cost almost as much as the riser itself, but I simply couldn't find *anyone* in Australia who could sell me one.

I'd be content with AMD64 AGP mATX board - did you find any of these in your search?

Probably, but I wasn't paying attention to them :) I don't want to seem a GigaByte loyalist, but their web site was the best resource I could find in my search for a motherboard which met my needs. I couldn't find any other comprehensive resource which specifically listed mATX form factor as well as the boards other major features.

http://www.giga-byte.com/Motherboard/Products/ComparisonSheet_List.htm

This page allows you to specify features you're interested in (unfortunately 'mATX' isn't one of them :( ) and it'll give you a list of their boards which meet your needs. It was then a matter of finding online retailers who stocked the board I was after and playing them against eachother :)

The only board I found is http://msicomputer.co.uk/Products.aspx?product_id=703524&cat_id=77 which strangley was the first I came across after about 4 hours looking over 2 days!!!

I've ordered all my stuff now, should have it tomorrow.

elliottmc, how do you find the board? I was amazed at the connectivity on the back, s-video & composite, which are you using? I tried to connect my existing geforce to the tv using s-video, but it had a nasty big black border all around the picture, does the ATI onboard GPU do that?

Can somebody help spot the differences between these cases, they look the same to me
a). http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=214602
b). http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=204560

Can anyone reccommend any other good resellers because www.scan.co.uk don't stock the PCI Express riser.

robo,

did you ever find out what the difference was between these two options?
Once of them seems to have a description for a completely different model!

Do you mind me asking where you ordered you case from?

Cheers

I have built an LC11 system using the MSI RS480M2-Il motherboard & have been extremely happy with it. Using an Athlon 64 3000+ with the stock heatsink, and with all of the other case fans unplugged, the system is virtually silent, and doesn't seem to have any overheating problems.

Coupled with a Nova-T pci, and a hauppauge MCE-500, it allows me to record/watch Foxtel (via composite inputs), Digital FTA or analog FTA. The integrated graphics seems to do a pretty good job outputting to an EDTV Plasma (at 800 x 600) but doesn't seem to have a lot of options for tweaking/setting custom resolutions via Powerstrip (i.e no chance of setting 852 x 480 to match the native resolution) :(

I have been using mine with a Netgear WG111 USB wireless adaptor to allow me to transfer files in/out, and download EPG guide etc.

The 2 distributors for the Silverstone cases in Australia are Altech and Weston Technology. From discussions I have had with the staff at Weston, they are expecting the risers to be in stock ~ August 15. Price for the card will be $50 ex GST.

The best thing about the LC11 is that Silverstone have managed to rethink the design of the average case to allow a fully featured system in a unit that is not too muc larger than a standard VCR - all good as far as I'm concerned!

AGP Riser
300w PSU

Well chuffed, gonna put it together at the weekend (unless I have a sleepless night).
