Can I access Media-Portal computer from another local computer? (1 Viewer)

Hello everyone,

I have a home wired LAN and my HTPC running Media-Portal is away from any real sitting area that I use for computer work (sending e-mail, surfing the web, writing code, etc). If I need to do something (like clean up watched flags, configure plug ins, delete files) on my HTPC, I usually have to go to my HTPC, use my wireless keyboard and do these things in my living room. It is a little combersom and hard as the screen is far and really set up for video and music enjoying. I don't have a real mouse (track ball in the keyboard) and there isn't a good place to sit.

I have used Team-viewer in the past to "remote in", but because I am using the free version, it leave up a little window when I am done. I also have had some crashes of my HTPC due to the Team-viewer VPN drivers.

Currently I am running Windows 7 Home premium. I think that the higher versions of win 7 allow remote desktop, but not home premium.

Are there any applications that I could install on an other computer to get to my HTPC?

There is a possibility to use Remote desktop in home edition. I found it a few days ago. I post the link when i find it again.

just install 32 or 64 bit with SP1.


Copy the extracted files to root C: and click on install.cmd
I'm using it on Windows 7 home premium 64bit.

When I upgraded my HTPC to Win7 a few months ago I discovered that the free version of RealVNC does not work with Win7. Actually, I think the client does, but the server doesn't, which means you can control a WinXP pc from a Win7 pc, but you cannot control a Win7 pc from a Win7 pc (I think that's right). Because of this I changed to TightVNC, and have been using that ever since. It seems to work well, although mouse handling doen't seem to be as smooth.
