Hi media gurus! My first post be about lacking PVR frontends and my frustrations!

I'm running MCE2005 with digital sat (danish Canal Digital - DVB-S) via the FloppyDTV module and this 'works' fine.

problems:

1:
I'll also need to use a simple DVB-T usb tuner because one(1) important channel in Denmark are only sent via DVB-T and this channel is missing now, this isn't possible in MCE, can it be done in MP? So a mix of DVB-S and DVB-T channels are shown in the EPG and so on as they were comming from the same source.

2:
When viewing a channel like National Geographic there's multiple audiotracks playing on top of each other, can the correct Language be permanently selected for a channel in MP?

3:
Subtitles from Satelite => ?

4:
is a complete EPG listing possible? Now i use O2grabber and Bladerunnerpro to grab/insert 60% of the data from dr.dk ( danish site with channel info) but it leave s many channels blank like "C More HD" and so on. Can MP handle two XML files for the EPG update?

5:
On the long run i would want true dual tuner functionality so would this require 2XFloppyDVB-S tuners and two DVB-T Usb tuners (or internal but i only have 1 pci slot available) is this possible?

I hope you'll read my post and let me know what can be done in MP or if i'll also hit the wall in this application? Excuse my english, i hope I made myself semi understandable :)

- Nick

Hi, NickSE & Welcome to MediaPortal forum.
Why don't you just download & install MediaPortal & test it.

    1. A mix of DVB-(X) & others works fine in MP.
    4. For EPG you can use the built in WebEPG plugin to download.
    5. Yeah you need either 2 cards or dual cards.

    Regards
    Roy

Hey Roy, thank you for the welcome msg and information! :)

I'm not just downloading it and testing it because I have spend so much time on the currect MCE setup that I wanted to know if MP was better before i told my GF that i had to work on the system and ignore her for the next week :D

    You wrote:

    Cool :)

"4. For EPG you can use the built in WebEPG plugin to download."

But can WebEPG grab a full listing for Danish Canal Digital? Or is it taking it directly from the satelite stream as DVB Viewer on channel 12456 V? (if not then why is DVBViewer able to access the EPG i the correct way while MCE/MP are doing it via Grabs and forcefeeding the system with xml data?)

"5. Yeah you need either 2 cards or dual cards."

But will 4 tuners work? Since i'll need 2XTuners for each DVB signal type, isn't that correct to be able to record and view something else while it records?

    Hi,
MP doesn't kill your system, install & test it & then uninstall if you don't like it ;)

I don't have dvb-s here so what iMP can grab when it comes to EPG data i dunno.
I use WebEPG for my 23 channels & it works perfect, grab here for 7 days only takes a minute & doesn't use much CPU.

Yup 4 cards, 2 for each type of signals.

    Regards
    Roy

Have a friend that had bought MCE... he now uses MP - ONLY! The MCE has not been used ever since he installed MP (except from using the XP-part of it).

MP has a lot more WAF-to it among the many things that makes MP a better choice than MCE.

I'd rather pay 100$ for MP than 50$ for MP.

Give it a try.... you'll love it - Money Back Guarantee ;-)

MediaPortal does not "damage" your MCE installation/configuration

the "WEB" in WebEPG allready implys that it is fetching the EPG data from the web.
you will have to run the WebEPG configuration to see if there are grabbers available for the tv-stations you were watching.

if you use a dvb-X card, MediaPortal is able to grab the dvb-EPG data.

    But will 4 tuners work?
    Yes

Since i'll need 2XTuners for each DVB signal type, isn't that correct to be able to record and view something else while it records?
    Yes

    1:
Ok but as i wrote earlier, i'm using Floppy DTV DVB-S, so does that mean MP can grab the listing via the Satelite stream instead of the Web method which i know doesn't work for all my channels?

And thank you for clearing the other things up :)

    2:
do you know if MP can do something about playing the correct audio track for the channels with multiple audio as National Geographic and Cartoon Network and so on?

    3:
Will MP work with all USB DVB-T tuners?
